UNH surprises Delaware

Keith LeVan caught two touchdown passes and threw for another score to lead New Hampshire to a 35-30 upset of No. 11 Delaware yesterday in Durham, N.H.

The Wildcats (3-2, 1-2 Colonial Athletic) built a 35-10 lead, then held on to survive a 20-point fourth-quarter charge by the Blue Hens (5-1, 3-1).

Delaware struck first on Joe Striefsky's 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter, but UNH answered with three touchdowns, on runs by Ricky Santos and Sean Jellison and a 45-yard pass from LeVan to Mike Boyle, for a 21-3 halftime advantage.

Santos sat out most of the game with a shoulder injury, but redshirt freshman R.J. Toman tossed touchdown passes to LeVan from 28 and 36 yards in the third quarter to give UNH a 35-10 lead.

Delaware's Omar Cuff ran for two touchdowns, including the final score on a 1-yard run with 1:33 remaining, and also caught a 31-yard TD pass.

Hofstra 38, Maine 13 - Kareem Huggins returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and also ran 71 yards for a score as the Pride (5-0, 2-0 Colonial Athletic) stayed perfect with a rout of the Black Bears (1-4, 0-3) at Hempstead, N.Y.

Stonehill 56, Saint Anselm 7 - Jeff Payne rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns, Eddie Vachon added 142 yards on the ground, ran for two TDs, and also caught a 28-yard scoring pass, and the Skyhawks (4-1, 3-0) blew out the Hawks (0-5, 0-4) at North Easton.

Bentley 25, Pace 6 - John White threw touchdown passes of 10 yards to Jon Kaczka and 24 to John Studley as the Falcons (4-1, 4-1) won their fourth straight, topping the Setters (1-5, 1-4) at Pleasantville, N.Y.

Bryant 24, C.W. Post 17 - Jerell Smith ran for 125 yards, including a go-ahead 14-yard touchdown jaunt in the second quarter, boosting the Bulldogs (5-0, 5-0) to victory over the Pioneers (2-3, 2-2) at Greenvale, N.Y.

AIC 44, Merrimack 21 - At Springfield, Rob Parent completed 17 of 23 passes for 420 yards and four touchdowns, Tyler Sciaccia had five catches for 166 yards and two TDs, and the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-2) scored the first 37 points en route to a rout of the Warriors (1-4, 1-3).

Coast Guard 58, Fitchburg St. 34 - Christian George accounted for 332 yards of offense, running nine times for 113 yards and a touchdown and completing 15 of 23 passes for 210 yards and two TDs, and the Bears (4-1, 3-0 Bogan) racked up 684 total yards in a wild victory over the Falcons (0-5, 0-3) at New London, Conn. Jim Miller completed 31 of 52 passes for 485 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Fitchburg.

Bridgewater St. 26, Framingham St. 20 - Steven Clark completed 15 of 21 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown, Chris Russell ran for 133 yards and a touchdown, and the host Bears (4-1, 3-0 Bogan) defeated the Rams (2-3, 1-2) for the sixth straight time and 23d time in 24 meetings.

UMass-Dartmouth 34, WNEC 14 - At North Dartmouth, J.T. Harold carried 16 times for 101 yards and four touchdowns as the Corsairs (3-3, 2-1 Boyd) scored 34 straight points to put away the Golden Bears (2-4, 0-3).

Westfield St. 18, Mass. Maritime 10 - Drew Lyons ran for 117 yards - 100 in the second half - and a touchdown to lift the host Owls (2-3, 1-2 Bogan) to the victory over the Mariners (2-4, 0-3).

Nichols 33, Salve Regina 8 - Robert Morris rushed for 122 yards, including an 8-yard scoring run, and the Bison (4-1, 3-0 Boyd) held the Seahawks (1-4, 0-3) to 77 total yards in a victory at Dudley.

Maine Maritime 13, Worcester St. 7 - At Castine, Maine, Brandon Goodrich ran for 174 yards and a touchdown, and the Mariners (3-2, 2-1 Bogan) took advantage of five turnovers by the Lancers (3-3, 2-1).

Curry 52, MIT 20 - Ryan Van De Giesen completed 18 of 31 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns, and Jamaal Woods rushed for 140 yards as the Colonels (6-0, 4-0 Boyd) scored the final 20 points to defeat the Engineers (0-5, 0-4) at Cambridge.

Plymouth St. 28, Endicott 17 - John DeMarco threw a pair of touchdown passes to Drew Richardson and ran for another score, lifting the host Panthers (5-0, 3-0 Boyd) over the Gulls (1-4, 1-2).

Tufts 21, Bowdoin 13 - Will Forde rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Tom Tassinari returned an interception 87 yards as the Jumbos (3-0, 3-0) stopped the Polar Bears (1-2, 1-2) in Somerville.

Middlebury 19, Amherst 16 - David Randolph scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 32-yarder for the first points of the game, and the Panthers (3-0, 3-0) held off the Lord Jeffs (2-1, 2-1) at Amherst.

Williams 31, Bates 26 - Pat Lucey completed 31 of 44 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns, Brian Morrissey took to the ground for 130 yards and a score, and the Ephs (1-2, 1-2) rallied from a 20-0 deficit to top the Bobcats (0-3, 0-3) at Williamstown.

Trinity 42, Hamilton 7 - At Hartford, Eric McGrath threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Connor Wells, and the Bantams (3-0, 3-0) overwhelmed the Continentals (0-3, 0-3) for their 25th straight home win.

Wesleyan 23, Colby 14 - At Middletown, Conn., Shea Dwyer had touchdown runs of 1, 2, and 3 yards to carry the Cardinals (2-1, 2-1) past the White Mules (0-3, 0-3).

Other New England

Springfield 42, Husson 28 -Chris Sharpe ran 26 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns, and Baldwin Cunningham added 104 yards and a pair of TDs as the host Pride (3-2) topped the Braves (4-2).
