Two years after Steve Aponavicius went from sitting in the stands to the Eagles' primary field goal kicker, is history close to repeating itself at The Heights?
Aiden Blake, a forward midfielder on the men's soccer team who is attending graduate school at BC, made some kicks before practice yesterday in an attempt to walk on to the team.
As the Eagles prepared for their Atlantic Coast Conference showdown with Florida State Saturday night at Alumni Stadium, they did so without either of their kickers. Freshman Billy Bennett is dealing with recurring back problems that sidelined him for the 14-10 victory over Virginia Tech and have kept him out of practice the last two days. And yesterday, Aponavicius also was absent with back problems.
"We're not playing tonight," said coach Jeff Jagodzinski, when asked if the Eagles had a kicking problem. "If they're not ready, we could always use [quarterback/wide receiver] Billy Flutie. That should get the crowd going."
Jagodzinski also could use redshirt freshman kicker Samuel Lovett. Lovett and Flutie handled the kicking chores yesterday.
Bennett, who was given an epidural for his pain on Tuesday, expressed confidence that he and Aponavicius would be ready to face the Seminoles.
"I think we will both be capable of kicking by Saturday," said Bennett.![]()
