Boston College senior quarterback Matt Ryan, senior safety Jamie Silva, and junior tight end Ryan Purvis were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team, the league announced yesterday.

Four other seniors were named to the second team: running back Andre Callender, left tackle Gosder Cherilus, linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, and cornerback DeJuan Tribble.

Junior wide receiver Brandon Robinson, junior defensive tackle Ron Brace, and sophomore defensive end Alex Albright earned honorable mentions.

Ryan was named to the first team for the second consecutive year. Tribble was named to the second team for the second year in a row.

The 10 honorees are the most the Eagles have had since joining the ACC in 2005.

Brooks suspended

ACC championship week started with a speed bump yesterday when coach Jeff Jagodzinski announced that running back A.J. Brooks was suspended indefinitely and will not be with the team Saturday for the conference championship game against Virginia Tech. Jagodzinski said the junior was suspended for a violation of team rules. Brooks played in seven games this season, rushing 25 times for 79 yards. As a freshman, he rushed for 160 yards in his first start and finished the season with 319 yards and three touchdowns on 57 carries . . . Ryan was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week for the sixth time this season.
