Maine football squad participates in spring scrimmage

ORONO, Maine—UMaine football scrimmages on Saturday mark another sign of spring.

Coach Jack Cosgrove's team takes to the AstroTurf on Morse Field at Alfond Stadium a week earlier than usual because it'll be used next weekend for the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

It'll be the last football game on the turf before the field is torn up athis summer and replaced with a new artificial surface.

The Bears are preparing for their Aug. 30 opener at Big Ten member Iowa.
