Ryan Van De Giesen threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as Curry, ranked No. 1 in New England in Division 3, pounded Westfield State, 42-16, yesterday to extend its New England Football Conference winning streak to 33, and its home winning streak to 31.
David Benoit caught nine passes for 158 yards, including two scores, for the Owls (2-1), while Joseph Freeman rushed for a 46-yard touchdown, finishing with 108 yards on 13 carries for the Colonels (3-0).
Maine Maritime 42, WNEC 35 - Junior fullback Jim Bower powered his way to 149 rushing yards and three scores as the Mariners (1-2, 1-1 NEFC), who had lost their previous two games by a total of 5 points, got into the win column in Springfield.
Freshman running back Nick Bourassa had 123 yards on seven carries, and started the game with an 84-yard kickoff return for a TD for Maine Maritime.
MIT 21, Framingham State 14 - Sophomore quarterback Rick Mancuso threw his first touchdown pass of the season with 1:02 remaining, a 9-yarder to Chris Ruggiero, to lift the Engineers (2-1, 2-1 NEFC) past the host Rams (1-2, 1-2).
Bryce Guilbeault had a pair of short TD runs for Framingham State, and Lucas Guarino added 105 yards on 22 carries.
Bridgewater State 42, Salve Regina 18 - Sophomore Jessy Resende of Brockton rushed for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns to power the Bears (1-2, 1-1 NEFC) past the Seahawks (1-1, 0-1) in Newport, R.I.
Bridgewater State amassed 327 yards and five TDs on the ground, capitalizing on three Salve Regina turnovers.
Plymouth State 26, Coast Guard 6 - John DeMarco's 40-yard touchdown hookup with J.J. Brooks in the second quarter highlighted the afternoon for the Panthers, who improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the NEFC.
Niles Pierson's 1-yard run midway through the third quarter provided the only scoring for the Bears (0-2, 0-1).
UMass-Dartmouth 45, Fitchburg State 17 - The Corsairs (2-1, 2-0 NEFC) scored three TDs in a span of 12 minutes, two on runs by Aaron Russo, to take a 31-10 lead, then coasted from there to beat the Falcons (0-3, 0-2) in North Dartmouth.
Middlebury 42, Bowdoin 28 - Donald McKillop completed 27 of 31 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers opened defense of their NESCAC crown by beating the visiting Polar Bears in a game that featured 885 yards of total offense.
Bowdoin quarterback Oliver Kell threw for 250 yards on 22-of-36 passing and rushed for 96 yards.
Tufts 20, Wesleyan 14 - The Jumbos rushed for 247 yards, including 133 and two touchdowns from senior Will Forde of Hyde Park, to earn a come-from-behind win over the Cardinals in a NESCAC opener in Somerville.
Tufts dominated time of possession in the second half (22:39-7:21), rushing for 172 yards after intermission.
Williams 28, Colby 0 - After a scoreless first half, the host Ephs (1-0) got it in gear on Brian Morrissey's 5-yard TD reception from Patrick Moffitt with 4:30 left in the third quarter, and scored again four minutes later when Moffitt connected with Nick Caro for a 54-yard score en route to the shutout.
The White Mules (0-1) were limited to 133 total yards and eight first downs.
Amherst 30, Hamilton 6 - The Lord Jeffs opened their season with a convincing win over the visiting Continentals as sophomore quarterback Alex Vetras threw for three touchdowns, and the Amherst defense intercepted four passes.
Trinity 17, Bates 7 - Juniors Oliver Starnes and Robert Jackson combined to rush for 181 yards for the Bantams, whose defense limited the Bobcats to 35 yards on the ground to win a NESCAC opener in Hartford.
AIC 49, Bentley 20 - The Yellow Jackets (3-0, 2-0 Northeast-10) scored 21 fourth-quarter points, including two of Rob Parent's six touchdown passes, to overwhelm the Falcons (1-3, 0-1) in Springfield.
Pace 15, Saint Anselm 14 - The Hawks led, 14-3, at the half, but couldn't hold off the Setters (3-0, 3-0 NE-10), who got a 1-yard touchdown run from quarterback Ray Gregg with 3:40 remaining in Manchester, N.H.
Gregg also threw for 141 yards and a score.
Monmouth 30, Bryant 17 - Senior David Sinisi rushed for 171 yards on 26 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns to guide the Eagles (1-3) past the Bulldogs (2-2) in a nonconference game in Smithfield, R.I.
WPI 47, Becker 7 - Quarterback Justin Wells scored on runs of 2 and 1 yards, and the host Engineers limited the Hawks (2-1) to 40 total yards in the first half en route to improving to 3-0 for the third straight year.
Endicott 20, Mass. Maritime 17 - Freshman Phil Konopka completed 14 of 20 passes for 121 yards, including a 21-yard scoring strike to Angelo Ortiz with 5:39 remaining, as the Gulls (1-2) used a pair of fourth-quarter TDs to earn the nonconference win over the winless Buccaneers (0-3) at Buzzards Bay.
Sacred Heart 44, Iona 24 - At New Rochelle, N.Y., Garry Coles scored two third-quarter touchdowns to spark the Pioneers (3-0).
Husson 25, Norwich 19 - Julius Williams's 180 yards and two TDs on 34 carries lifted the Eagles (2-1) over the Cadets (2-1) in Northfield, Vt.
Central Conn. 35, N.C. Central 23 - James Mallory ran for 169 yards and a touchdown as the Blue Devils (2-1) prevailed in New Britain, Conn.
Kean 43, Western Conn. 26 - The Cougars (1-0) racked up more than 500 total yards, getting 163 in receptions from Durell Dukes and 159 on the ground from Jared Chunn in Union, N.J.
