LSU rallies to overcome Auburn again

Another LSU-Auburn thriller goes to the Tigers from Louisiana.

Jarrett Lee and Brandon LaFell connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 1:03 left to lift No. 6 LSU to yet another dramatic comeback win over No. 10 Auburn, 26-21, last night in an SEC West showdown that once again produced a fantastic finish and wild momentum swings.

The only major difference in this one was the road team came out on top. The last eight games in the series had gone to the home team. LSU also snapped Auburn's streak of six consecutive victories at Jordan-Hare Stadium against top-10 teams.

Lee took over for an injured Andrew Hatch (mild concussion) in the third quarter and produced a series of big plays to make up for a lousy start for LSU (3-0, 1-0). Lee missed his first five throws, with an interception returned for a touchdown.

Auburn (3-1, 1-1) moved to LSU's 47 on the final drive, with help from Rahim Alem's roughing-the-passer penalty. Alem then atoned with a sack of Chris Todd to recoup the 15-yard loss, and Todd's desperation pass to Rod Smith on fourth and 25 came up short of the first down.

LSU won last year's meeting on Demetrius Byrd's last-second touchdown catch from Matt Flynn, and Byrd came up big again. He pulled in a 22-yard halfback pass from Keiland Williams on the final play of the third quarter for a 17-14 lead. Colt David added a 32-yard field goal with 8:27 left.

Todd and Auburn's offense had kept the team alive. He hit Robert Dunn for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 6:40 left on third and 9. It was set up by a 58-yard heave to Tim Hawthorne.

Lee, who had been platooning with Hatch, was 4 for 4 on the winning drive for 43 yards. LSU had taken over near midfield after Ryan Shoemaker's 34-yard punt.

Georgia 27, Arizona St. 10 - Knowshon Moreno rushed for 149 yards and two TDs, A.J. Green caught eight passes for 159 yards and a score, and the No. 3 Bulldogs (4-0) posted a statement victory in Tempe, Ariz.

On a 99-degree night in the desert, Georgia held the Sun Devils (2-2) to 4 yards rushing on 19 carries, Arizona State's lowest total since it netted minus-2 against California Nov. 9, 2002. The Bulldogs also sacked Rudy Carpenter four times.

Georgia's Matthew Stafford passed for 285 yards and a 14-yard touchdown to Green that gave the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.

Florida 30, Tennessee 6 - Gators coach Urban Meyer improved to 4-0 against the rival Volunteers as No. 4 Florida (3-0, 1-0 SEC) took control early and cruised in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tim Tebow threw two TD passes and didn't have to do much else as Tennessee (1-2, 0-1) self-destructed. Soon after Brandon James took the opening kickoff 52 yards, Tebow flipped a 2-yard TD pass Aaron Hernandez for a 7-0 lead five minutes into the game.

James also returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown to put Florida ahead, 17-0, with 4:42 left in the first quarter. Including the fourth quarter of last season’s 59-20 blowout, Florida shut out Tennessee for four straight quarters and hung 58 straight points on the Vols.

Missouri 42, Buffalo 21 - Chase Daniel passed for a career-high 439 yards and set a Big 12 record with 20 consecutive completions, helping the fifth-ranked Tigers (4-0) overcome a rash of errors in a sloppy home win over the Bulls.

Daniel was 36 of 43 for two touchdowns, and fell three completions shy of the NCAA record of 23 in a row shared by Tennessee's Tee Martin (1998) and Cal's Aaron Rodgers (2004). The previous Big 12 record was 18 straight shared by Iowa State's Seneca Wallace (2001) and Oklahoma's Sam Bradford (2007). Daniel had shared the previous school record of 15 in a row with Kent Kiefer (1990), setting it over two games in 2007.

Texas 52, Rice 10 - Colt McCoy threw for 329 yards and four TDs, setting the Texas career record with 62, and the seventh-ranked Longhorns (3-0) romped past the Owls in Austin, Texas.

Alabama 49, Arkansas 14 - Javier Arenas and Justin Woodall scored on long interception returns and the No. 9 Crimson Tide (4-0, 1-0 SEC) scored six of their seven TDs on plays of at least 25 yards in a blowout in Fayetteville, Ark. Glen Coffee ran for 162 yards and two TDs for the Tide.

South Florida 17, Florida International 9 - Mike Ford ran for two short TDs as the 12th-ranked Bulls (4-0) spoiled the Golden Panthers' first game in their new on-campus stadium in Miami.

South Florida starting linebacker Brouce Mompremier was injured after colliding with a teammate while attempting a tackle with 6:43 left in the third quarter. Mompremier remained motionless on the turf for about 20 minutes before being removed by ambulance and then airlifted to a downtown Miami hospital with tingling in his neck and shoulders. Before the helicopter departed, Mompremier was seen slowly moving his arms, and was believed to be regaining some movement in his legs.

Ohio St. 28, Troy 10 - Terrelle Pryor became the first true freshman to start at quarterback for the No. 13 Buckeyes (3-1) in 30 years, throwing for four scores and revitalizing host Ohio State's sluggish offense.

BYU 44, Wyoming 0 - Max Hall threw three TD passes and the No. 14 Cougars (4-0, 1-0 Mountain West) extended the nation's longest winning streak to 14 with a second straight shutout.

Penn St. 45, Temple 3 - Daryll Clark threw two TD passes and ran for an 11-yard score and Stephfon Green ran for 132 yards and a 69-yard TD as the No. 16 Nittany Lions (4-0) held the visiting Owls to 138 total yards.

Boise St. 37, Oregon 32 - The Broncos (3-0) earned their first road win over a Pac-10 team as Kellen Moore passed for 386 yards and three scores in an upset of the No. 17 Ducks (3-1).

Kansas 38, Sam Houston St. 14 - Todd Reesing threw for 356 yards and two TDs and ran for another score as the host Jayhawks (3-1), ranked 19th, breezed through their final non-conference game.

Utah 30, Air Force 23 - Darrell Mack scored three second-half touchdowns, including a 9-yard run up the middle with 58 seconds remaining to help the No. 20 Utes (4-0, 2-0 Mountain West) rally on the road.

Fresno St. 55, Toledo 54 - Tom Brandstater passed for four TDs and ran for the deciding score in the second overtime, and the No. 25 Bulldogs (2-1) knocked down the potential winning 2-point conversion pass by the visiting Rockets (1-2).
