UNC beats up on No. 24 UConn

Shawn Draughn rushed for a career-high 109 yards and a touchdown, Bruce Carter blocked three punts, and defensive lineman Marvin Austin returned an interception 23 yards for another score as North Carolina routed No. 24 Connecticut, 38-12, last night in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Ryan Houston had a 1-yard score and Cameron Sexton threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks for North Carolina (4-1), which scored 21 points off Husky mistakes. UConn (5-1) outgained the Tar Heels, 378-263, and had a 10-minute advantage in time of possession, but couldn't overcome three interceptions by Zach Frazer.
Donald Brown, the nation's leading rusher, ran for 161 yards - 20 below his average - with a touchdown for the Huskies. But 93 of those yards came in the fourth quarter, well after the game was decided.
Framingham St. 42, Worcester St. 21 - The Rams (3-2, 1-1 NEFC) snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Lancers (1-4, 1-1) behind a defense that caused three turnovers and limited the visitors to 243 yards of offense.
Senior quarterback Bruce Rich of Chelmsford completed 20 of 27 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns and Jonathan Hayes had 10 catches for 147 yards, both career highs.
Junior Dave Leach, also of Chelmsford, eclipsed the 100-yard mark in rushing for the fifth straight game, accounting for 104 yards on 25 carries with two scores. He also had five catches for 80 yards and two more scores.
Curry 21, Salve Regina 7 - The Colonels (5-0, 2-0 NEFC) scored 21 unanswered points to beat the Seahawks (2-2, 1-1) in Newport, R.I., and run their league winning streak to 35 games.
UMass-Dartmouth 51, MIT 20 - The Corsairs (3-2, 1-1 NEFC) scored 28 second-half points to pull away from the visiting Engineers (3-2, 1-1). Austin Prep product J.T. Harold gained 187 yards on 16 carries and scored four times to power the Corsairs.
Bridgewater St. 38, Fitchburg St. 14 - Senior Bruce Burley of Mansfield ran for 202 yards and two TDs and caught a 75-yard pass for another score to power the Bears (2-3, 1-1 NEFC) over the visiting Falcons (1-4, 1-1).
Maine Maritime 33, Westfield St. 28 - Travis Shaw caught a 10-yard pass with 1:34 remaining for the Mariners (3-2, 2-0 NEFC), who bolted to a 27-7 lead then survived a comeback by the host Owls (2-3, 0-2). Westfield took a 28-27 lead with 6:36 left when David Benoit caught his third scoring pass from Dan Cohen.
Plymouth St. 40, WNEC 20 - Jeff Mack ran for 197 yards and scored four times in the first half alone to power the Panthers (4-1, 2-0 NEFC) over the visiting Golden Bears (0-5, 0-2).
Endicott 27, Nichols 20 - Drew Cusato scored twice to help the Gulls (2-3, 1-1 NEFC) hold off the Bison (2-3, 0-2) in Dudley.
Merrimack 31, Pace 28 - Freshman quarterback J.R. Suozzo of Everett threw for three touchdowns and ran for 59 yards and a score to lead the Warriors (3-2, 2-1 NE-10) over the Setters (3-2, 2-1) in Pleasantville, N.Y.
AIC 37, St. Anselm 6 - Travis Poole had two touchdown catches and Marcus Cameron ran for two others as the visiting Yellow Jackets (5-0, 3-0 NE-10) kept the Hawks (0-5, 0-3) winless.
Iona 35, Stonehill 34 - Nick Rossetti threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jeffrey Miller in overtime to give the Gaels (3-2) the victory over the Skyhawks (1-4) in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Bowdoin 28, Tufts 26 - Oliver Kell threw for 224 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score as the Polar Bears (1-2, 1-2 NESCAC) beat the Jumbos (2-1, 2-1) in Brunswick, Maine.
Williams 27, Bates 14 - Brian Morrissey had 107 yards rushing and a TD and Patrick Moffitt had a 35-yard scoring pass to Ryan Powell as the Ephs (2-1, 2-1 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (0-3, 0-3) in Lewiston, Maine.
Trinity 20, Hamilton 15 - Eric McGrath hit Connor Wells for a 40-yard score with 23 seconds left to lift the Bantams (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) over the Continentals (1-2, 1-2) in Clinton, N.Y.
Middlebury 31, Amherst 14 - The Panthers (2-1, 2-1 NESCAC) held the visiting Lord Jeffs (2-1, 2-1) to just 22 rushing yards for their third straight win in the series.
Colby 13, Wesleyan 7 - A halfback option pass from Dan Prunier to Matt Hellinger resulted in a 31-yard score, helping lift the Mules (2-1, 2-1 NESCAC) over the Cardinals (0-3, 0-3) in Waterville, Maine
Central Conn. 35, Wagner 10 - Aubrey Norris was 4 for 4 passing for 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Blue Devils (3-2, 1-0 NEC) used a big second half to pull away from the Seahawks (2-3, 0-1) in New Britain, Conn.
Sacred Heart 31, Robert Morris 28 - Evin Jones rushed for a career-high 187 yards and one touchdown and Dale Fink threw for two touchdowns as the Pioneers (5-0, 1-0 NEC) held off the visiting Colonials (1-4, 0-2).
Coast Guard 30, Mass. Maritime 6 - Quarterback Niles Pierson ran for 127 yards and two scores and Steve Arguelles added 121 more yards to lead the Bears (2-2, 2-0 NEC) over the Buccaneers (0-5, 0-2) in New London, Conn.
WPI 19, Union 16 - Justin Wells hit Will Ziegenfus for a 2-yard TD pass with 5:58 remaining to lift the Engineers (4-1, 1-1 Liberty) over the visiting Dutchmen (1-3, 0-2) for the first time since 1999.
Alfred 42, Norwich 0 - Tom Secky threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns and Morgan OâBrien rushed for 129 yards and two scores as the host Saxons (4-1, 2-0 Empire 8) overwhelmed the Cadets (2-3, 0-1).
Utica 16, Springfield 12 - Casey McNulty hit three field goals as the visiting Pioneers (1-3, 1-0 Empire 8) beat the Pride (1-3, 0-2).
