Each week he plays a different role. One week he was Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman, then he was Georgia Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt. Two weeks ago, he impersonated North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson.
This week's role is that of Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor, which is just fine with Boston College freshman Justin Tuggle, whose job changes constantly as a member of the Eagles' scout team.
Barring catastrophic injuries shaking up the quarterback depth chart, Tuggle will not play in a game this season. The 6-foot-3-inch, 208-pound son of former Pro Bowl linebacker Jessie Tuggle is being redshirted this season.
That is not to say that Justin Tuggle is not an active member of the team as it prepares for tomorrow night's Atlantic Coast Conference home game against Taylor and the Hokies.
"It's been a lot of fun for me and the freshmen receivers that are redshirting," said Tuggle. "It's been good. It's a chance to grow as a player."
Tuggle treats each week as a new challenge. He will look at some video of the opposing quarterback, read the scouting reports, then do his best to imitate the opposing QB against BC's defense. "I try and get a picture in my mind," he said.
When asked if one of his goals was to make the Eagles' defense look bad, Tuggle laughed. "I try to," he said. "But we just go out each and every week trying to make the defense better. I just try and emulate what I see."
