Outback Bowl
Who: Iowa vs. South Carolina
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
TV: ESPN
Mark Blaudschun's analysis: The Hawkeyes finished the season with a flourish with a 55-0 rout of Minnesota after earlier handing No. 3 Penn State its only loss. Iowa is led by RB Shonn Greene (1,729 yards, 17 TDs). They also have a nasty defense. South Carolina finished with two blowout losses, 56-6 to Florida and 31-14 to Clemson. The Gamecocks are more defensive than offensive, which is unusual for a Steve Spurrier-coached team.
Prediction: Iowa 12, South Carolina 10
Gator Bowl
Who: Nebraska vs. Clemson
When: 1 p.m.
Where: Municipal Stadium, Jacksonville, Fla.
TV: Ch. 4
Mark Blaudschun's analysis: Clemson finished with three straight victories, turning Dabo Swinney from interim coach to the new head coach of the Tigers. With QB Cullen Harper (2,395 yards) and the RB combination of James Davis and C.J. Spiller (combined 1,337 yards and 18 TDs), Clemson can score. But the Husker defense is tough and Bo Pellini's team also finished on a hot streak with five wins in its last six games. Husker QB Joe Ganz passed for 3,332 yards and 23 TD passes.
Prediction: Nebraska 21, Clemson 13
Capital One Bowl
Who: Georgia vs. Michigan State
When: 1 p.m.
Where: Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, Orlando, Fla.
TV: Ch. 5
Mark Blaudschun's analysis: In Georgia's three losses, RB Knowshon Moreno was held under 100 yards, so Michigan State knows what it needs to do. The problem is that stopping Moreno (1,338 yards, 16 TDs) isn't easy when the Bulldogs also have a quarterback as good as Matthew Stafford (3,209 yard, 22 TDs). Michigan State is led by RB Javon Ringer (1,590 yards, 21 TDs) and it can run with the Dawgs. But not all day.
Prediction: Georgia 28, Michigan State 21
Rose Bowl
Who: Penn State vs. USC
When: 5 p.m.
Where: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Calif.
TV: Ch. 5
Mark Blaudschun's analysis: You could make an argument that this is a better matchup than Florida-Oklahoma in the BCS title game. Penn State was a last-second field goal away from a perfect season and USC was one inexplicable road loss short of perfection. USC is better on defense than offense this year. QB Mark Sanchez has been injured and inconsistent but still passed for 30 TDs. Penn State has been solid all year, led by QB Daryll Clark (2,319 yards, 17 TDs) and RB Evan Royster (1,202 yards, 12 TDs).
Prediction: USC 17, Penn State 13
Orange Bowl
Who: Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Dolphin Stadium, Miami
TV: Ch. 25
Mark Blaudschun's analysis: Virginia Tech is attempting to become the first Atlantic Coast Conference team since 1999 to win a BCS game. With QB Tyrod Taylor and freshman RB Darren Evans (1,112 yards, 10 TDs), the Hokies can be dangerous on offense and CB Victor Macho Harris leads a defense that can bite you. Cincinnati is a rising star in the Big East. Coach Brian Kelly has built a solid program in just two years.
Prediction: Cincinnati 13, Virginia Tech 10![]()
