BC has 'nothing to report' on a football coach

There was no news out of Boston College yesterday regarding the search to find a replacement for football coach Jeff Jagodzinski, who was fired last week.

"Nothing to report," said associate athletic director/media relations Chris Cameron. "I'm waiting like everyone else."

Defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani is still expected to be named, perhaps as early as today.

According to sources familiar with the situation, athletic director Gene DeFilippo spent a good part of the day checking potential external candidates to see if they had an interest in BC. There were some positive responses, but they came back with a condition: They would talk only if an offer was tendered.

The candidate drawing the most attention, according to those sources, was Richmond first-year coach Mike London, though he said he had not heard from BC.

"I have not been contacted by anyone at BC, but I know they're going through a process and they're in the middle of it," said London, whose team won the Football Championship Subdivision title. "I'm just trying to do my best to recruit for the national champion Richmond Spiders."

Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly, Temple coach Al Golden, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz, Connecticut coach Randy Edsall, and Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio all have been mentioned as candidates, but none has been confirmed as a contender by BC officials or even acknowledged that BC contacted them.
