Yale unlocks offense in rout of Georgetown

Patrick Witt threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns and Jordan Farrell added two rushing scores to lead Yale to a 31-10 win over Georgetown yesterday in Washington.

Farrell, who finished with 91 yards rushing on 17 carries, scored on a 19-yard run to give the Bulldogs (1-0) a 17-3 lead in the second quarter. The Hoyas (0-3) cut the deficit to 7 when Paul Sant’Ambrogio returned a fumble 38 yards for a TD.

But Witt, who completed 22 of 27 passes, threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to John Sheffield to put Yale ahead, 24-10, in the fourth quarter. Farrell gave the Bulldogs more cushion with a 3-yard TD run.

Isaiah Kempf was 32 of 59 for 332 yards and two interceptions for Georgetown. Robert Lane caught 13 passes for 149 yards.

Colgate 34, Dartmouth 15 - Jordan McCord ran for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Raiders at Hanover, N.H.

The Raiders (3-0) held Dartmouth to 26 yards rushing. The Big Green, who played their first game of the season, went 2 of 11 on third down.

Colgate’s Greg Sullivan was 12 of 19 for 172 yards and one touchdown. Sullivan also had 51 yards rushing on 10 carries and two touchdowns.

Pat Simmonds caught three passes for 64 yards for the Raiders, who have beaten Dartmouth 10 of the last 11 times. Colgate also held the Big Green to 173 yards of offense.

Alex Jenny threw for 147 yards on 11-of-28 passing for Dartmouth.

Stony Brook 21, Brown 20 - Michael Coulter’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Donald Porter with 47 seconds left was the difference for the host Seawolves. Brown nearly pulled out its season opener, but Drew Plitcha was wide right on a 40-yard field goal attempt as time expired.

Buddy Farnham had 12 catches for 121 yards for the Bears. Kyle Newhall completed his first 11 passes and finished 29 of 45 for 267 yards. One of his three TD throws went to Farnham.

Columbia 40, Fordham 28 - M.A. Olawale threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to pace the visiting Lions.

John Skelton passed for 383 yards and four TDs for Fordham, but his third interception was returned 36 yards by Jared Morine for Columbia’s final score.

Villanova 14, Penn 3 - Matt Szczur ran back the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, sparking the Wildcats past the Quakers in Philadelphia. Keiffer Garton passed for 185 yards for Penn.

Cornell 33, Bucknell 9 - Ben Ganter had two touchdown passes as the Big Red broke open a close game by scoring 24 straight points in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Citadel 38, Princeton 7 - Terrell Dallas scored two of the Bulldogs’ three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to roll to victory over the host Tigers.
