With neither offense doing much, it was fitting that a trick play gave Yale a 7-0 victory over Lehigh in a nonleague meeting yesterday in Bethlehem, Pa.
Lehigh fumbled on its opening possession of the second half, with the Bulldogs’ Geoff Dunham recovering at midfield. Yale (3-2) picked up one first down but fizzled again, this time committing a delay of game penalty to bring up fourth and 11. Instead of a direct snap to punter Tom Mante, Paul Rice got the ball and took it 40 yards for the game’s only touchdown.
Lehigh (1-5) outgained the Bulldogs, 197-189, but was shut out for the first time since 1986. Yale’s Tom McCarthy blocked a 33-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter.
Holy Cross 34, Dartmouth 14 - Dominic Randolph threw three TD passes as the Crusaders (5-1) throttled the 0-5 Big Green in Worcester in a nonleague encounter.
Brown 34, Princeton 17 - Buddy Farnham’s 309 all-purpose yards for the host Bears (3-2, 1-1 Ivy) included an 80-yard TD catch and a 92-yard punt return for a score. Princeton dropped to 1-4, 0-2.
Penn 27, Columbia 13 - At New York, Keiffer Garton had two TD passes for the Quakers (3-2, 2-0), while the Lions committed seven turnovers (2-3, 1-1).
Fordham 39, Cornell 27 - The Rams’ John Skelton starred in the nonleague game in Ithaca, N.Y., throwing for five TDs and running for one.
