Quarterback Donald McKillop turned in a record-setting performance and Middlebury’s defense shut out unbeaten Amherst for the first 30 minutes.

The end result: Another win for the Lord Jeffs.

Amherst scored on every possession but its final clock-killing drive in the second half, stunning the host Panthers, 38-31, yesterday to extend its winning streak to 11 games.

Amherst’s Alex Vetras was 26 of 49 for 278 yards and two touchdowns and Eric Bunker rushed for 88 yards and two scores, including the winner from a yard out with 2:32 left.

Vetras was clutch on the winning drive, twice converting on fourth down as the Lord Jeffs improved to 3-0 in NESCAC play this season.

His heroics were needed because McKillop was immense again for Middlebury (1-2), going 47 of 62 for 421 yards and two TDs.
