NORMAN, Okla.—The start of the football game between Texas Tech and Oklahoma has been delayed after rain storms with lightning moved near Owen Field just before kickoff.

A few bolts of lightning could be seen in the distance as Oklahoma's band was playing its pregame show, and rain started falling at the stadium with 11 minutes left on a scoreboard clock counting down to kickoff.

A public address announcer asked that fans leave the seating area and head to the concourses just after the national anthem was played. Several thousand fans remained in their seats as the rain subsided but a mandated delay of at least 30 minutes continued.

It was the second time this season Texas Tech had a game delayed by lightning. The Red Raiders' game at New Mexico last month was delayed twice for a total of 1 hour, 35 minutes.
