Globe columnist Bob Ryan spent the winter touring New England's Division 1 men's basketball schools, attending a home game at each one. Among his conclusions: 1. Referees call far too many offensive fouls on unworthy defenders. 2. The old-fashioned runner, or floater, is back in vogue. 3. There are an astonishing number of small sub/pizza shops all over New England. How do they all stay in business? 4. Youd be surprised to learn who has the best sports venue in New England.
