Boston University snaps six-game winless streak

 With Boston University less than four seconds away from what would have been a six-game winless streak, Matt Nieto took matters into his own hands.

 The junior scored with 3.8 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the No. 13 Terriers, who saw a three-goal lead evaporate in the third period, past host Maine, 5-4, Saturday night. BU hadn’t won since Jan. 25.

 Freshman Danny O’Reagan scored twice and assisted on Nieto’s winner, and freshman goalie Sean Maguire notched a career-best 40 saves for BU (14-12-2, 11-7-2 Hockey East).

 Maine (8-16-6, 4-11-6) scored three times in the final period, including Steven Swavely’s equalizer with 39 seconds remaining.

Quinnipiac 2, Clarkson 1 — Eric Hartzell made 29 saves for his program-record 22d win this season, and the top-ranked Bobcats (22-4-4, 15-1-2 ECAC) rebounded from losing a 21-game win streak with a decision over the visiting Golden Knights (8-15-7, 7-8-3).

UMass-Lowell 3, UMass 2 — Derek Arnold and Riley Wetmore each had a goal and an assist for the 14th-ranked River Hawks (16-9-2, 10-8-2 Hockey East) in a win over the Minutemen at Tsongas Center.

 Christian Folin added the other goal for the hosts, who got 23 saves for Connor Hellebuyck. Michael Pereira and Conor Sheary each scored for the Minutemen (10-15-2, 7-12-1).

Rensselaer 4, Yale 1 — Andrew Miller scored on a 5-on-3 advantage, but the 10th-ranked Bulldogs (13-9-3, 9-8-1 ECAC) suffered their fourth straight defeat with a loss to the host Engineers (14-11-5, 9-6-3).

Dartmouth 5, Colgate 4 — Eric Neiley scored his second of two goals with 5:19 remaining, and the 17th-ranked Big Green (12-9-4, 8-7-3 ECAC) nipped the visiting Raiders (13-13-4, 5-10-3).

Vermont 3, Northeastern 1 — Chris McCarthy potted a pair of goals and Brody Hoffman made 29 stops as the Catamounts (10-14-4, 7-10-4) pulled out the Hockey East win at Matthews Arena.

 Cody Ferriero scored the lone goal for the Huskies (8-16-3, 4-13-3).

Harvard 2, Cornell 2 — Raphael Girard’s 38 saves kept the host Crimson in it for an ECAC draw against the visiting Big Red (9-13-3, 5-10-3).

 Alex Fallstrom and Marshall Everson each tallied a score for Harvard (7-15-3, 4-12-2).

Union 2, Brown 0 — Anthony Borelli had 46 saves for the Bears (9-11-5, 5-8-5 ECAC), but it wasn’t enough to overcome the host Dutchmen (15-10-5, 8-6-4).

Bentley 2, Army 2 — Junior Branden Komm made 54 saves for the visiting Falcons (12-15-2, 10-11-2 Atlantic Hockey) against the Black Knights (7-15-6, 7-10-5).

UConn 4, Holy Cross 1 — Matt Grogan’s 42-save effort lifted the Huskies (14-13-3, 11-10-2 Atlantic Hockey) past the Crusaders (15-11-2, 11-8-2) in Worcester.

AIC 9, Sacred Heart 1 — Adam Pleskach and Jason Popek each scored twice, and the visiting Yellow Jackets (9-14-5, 6-11-5 Atlantic Hockey) blew out the winless Pioneers.

Women

BU 2, Vermont 1 — The third-ranked Terriers (19-5-3, 14-2-1 Hockey East) broke a two-game skid by picking up the program’s 150th victory, all under eighth-year coach Brian Durocher. Junior cocaptain Marie-Philip Poulin had both goals, her second coming with 1:30 left in regulation. The visiting Catamounts fell to 8-18-3, 6-9-3.

BC 6, UConn 1 — Alex Carpenter tallied two goals and two assists to pull within seven points of the program’s season record, and the No. 2 Eagles (22-5-2) overpowered the Huskies (3-24-3, 1-15-1) at Conte Forum.

Harvard 5, Colgate 2 — The fifth-ranked Crimson (19-4-2, 15-2-1 ECAC) defeated the host Raiders (9-19-3, 4-13-3) for the ninth straight time as Kaitlin Spurling provided two goals and an assist.

Northeastern 5, Maine 2 — Brittany Esposito scored twice and had the first of three third-period goals for the 10th-ranked Huskies in Orono, Maine. Kendall Coyne also had a pair of goals for NU (17-10-2, 9-7-1 Hockey East). The Black Bears (5-21-3, 2-14-2) received a goal and an assist from Brittany Dougherty.
