DURHAM, N.H. — New Hampshire scored two goals in the second period and added another two in the third en route to a 4-1 victory over Northeastern Saturday night in front of 5,436 at the Whittemore Center.

It gave the Wildcats (6-5-1, 4-2-0 Hockey East) a weekend sweep of the Huskies, who have dropped five of the last six outings and dropped to 6-5-0 and 1-4-0.

NU hasn’t beaten UNH at Whittemore since Nov. 16, 2007, a skein of 0-7-1 since then.

UNH coach Dick Umile said it was important to take four points out of the weekend given that there are only 20 league games this season.

“Obviously any time you can win two games in Hockey East, give credit to Northeastern [because] they came at us hard, I thought we competed and did a good job,’’ said Umile.
