College hockey roundup: BC sweeps vermont, clinches Hockey East title

Checking off its to-do list is turning out to be a snap for No. 1 Boston College.

A week after winning their fifth straight Beanpot title, the Eagles beat No. 15 Vermont, 5-3, at Gutterson Field House Saturday night for a sweep of the weekend series that clinched the Hockey East regular-season title. It was the third Hockey East crown in the last four seasons for BC, which extended its unbeaten streak to 17 games (16-0-1).

Johnny Gaudreau, Chris Calnan, and Scott Savage each had a goal and an assist and Brian Billett made 35 saves to help the Eagles (24-4-3, 15-1-1).

Nick Bruneteau had a goal and an assist and Chris McCarthy and Colin Markison also scored for Vermont (15-11-3, 7-9-0).
