Giovacchini lifts Harvard in OT

David Giovacchini scored a career-high 20 points, including 10 in overtime, to lead Harvard to an 85-82 win over Colgate last night in Hamilton, N.Y.

Harvard (2-5) snapped a three-game losing streak, while Colgate (2-5) dropped its third straight game.

Other Harvard players in double figures were Matt Stehle and Kevin Rogus with 15 points each, Brian Cusworth with 14, and Jason Norman with 11. Stehle finished with 11 rebounds, and Cusworth grabbed 10.

Jon Simon led Colgate with 21 points, while Kyle Roemer had a career-high 19, Alvin Reed added 17, and Andrew Zidar 15. Colgate's leading rebounder was Zidar with nine.

Colgate sent the game into overtime on Simon's 3-pointer with 7 1/2 seconds remaining. With the score tied, 71-71, in overtime, Harvard took control with a 5-point run.

Colgate had a chance to tie the game, trailing, 84-82, with 15 seconds left, but turned the ball over.

Oklahoma St. 86, Alabama-Birmingham 73 -- John Lucas 3d scored 9 of his 18 points in a 14-0 second-half run, and Joey Graham had 20 points as the fifth-ranked Cowboys rolled past the Blazers in Stillwater, Okla.

Iowa 70, Iowa St. 63 -- Adam Haluska scored 20 points against his former team as the 17th-ranked Hawkeyes (8-1) fended off a late run by the Cyclones (4-2) in Iowa City.

It was Haluska's first appearance against Iowa State, where he started as a freshman in the 2002-03 season, and it was memorable. He made five of his first six shots to help the Hawkeyes jump in front early and they never trailed.

Women

Stanford 85, Pepperdine 49 -- Freshman Candice Wiggins helped the second-ranked Cardinal (6-0) usher in a new era with 21 points in a victory over the visiting Waves (2-7).

Kristen Newlin added a season-high 16 points as the Cardinal played their first game in the renovated Maples Pavilion. Brooke Smith added 13 points.

Georgia 93, Augusta St. 47 -- Tasha Humphrey had 24 points and 12 rebounds and the 11th-ranked Lady Dogs (6-3) ended a two-game losing streak with a rout of the visiting Jaguars (6-3).

Navy 72, Providence 42 -- East Longmeadow's Ashley Pelzek scored a career-high 22 points and Lauren Skrel added 13 points and a career-high 10 assists as the Midshipmen (2-4) routed the Friars (0-8) in Annapolis, Md.

Shauna Snyder scored 13 points for the Friars, who have lost 24 consecutive games.

Indiana 67, Maine 59 -- Cyndi Valentin's 28 points powered the Hoosiers (4-3) past the host Black Bears (3-3).

Wesleyan 74, Springfield 53 -- Hannah Stubbs scored 21 points, and Meghan Robinson added 16 points and 14 rebounds as the host Cardinals (7-0) rolled past the Pride (5-2).
