Former Franklin High basketball captain Brandon Eigenberg is now a sophomore point guard on the Babson College basketball team. Eigenberg had appeared in all of Babson's first nine games -- five as a starter -- and was leading the team with an average of 2.2 steals per game.
''Brandon has come a long way since the beginning of last season," said Babson head coach Stephen Brennan. ''He gained a lot of valuable experience last year, and he gave us some great minutes off the bench in our conference and NCAA tournament games. This season he has continued to play solid basketball, and we hope that he will continue to improve and contribute over the next two months."
Last season, Eigenberg came off the bench in 21 games, totaling 38 points, 22 rebounds, and 16 assists. He was especially effective during the team's outstanding playoff run, as he totaled 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while shooting 54.5 percent from the field in the Beavers' final four games. Last year, Babson went 21-8, claimed the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference championship, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
This season, Eigenberg was averaging 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Eigenberg is a 2003 graduate of Franklin High School, where he was a four-year member of the basketball team. He was a two-time all-state selection and a Hockomock League MVP. As a senior, he averaged 18 points, 3.5 assists, and 5.6 rebounds. Eigenberg also worked as an instructor at the Tomorrow's Stars basketball camp at Dean College in his hometown.
Franklin coach Dean O'Connor said after his high school career: ''The things he brings to a team are incredible. Every night the other team is putting their quickest guy on him, and he still finds a way to get it done."
