By the time Boston University turned its fortunes around, it was too late to reverse a more troubling trend.
Albany sent the visiting Terriers to their third straight defeat last night, 71-60, after the Great Danes held BU to 19 first-half points on 31 percent shooting, including 1 of 7 from 3-point range. BU found the mark in the second half -- when Kevin Gardner scored 14 of his 22 points and the Terriers hit at a 50 percent clip -- but Albany was even stronger, shooting 57 percent and 6 of 8 from long distance.
Jamar Wilson scored 22 points and Jason Siggers added 19, making all four of his 3-point attempts for the Great Danes (14-8, 9-2 America East). Corey Hassan added a career-high 19 points for BU (8-14, 5-6).
Albany led, 31-24, early in the second half before going on a 15-1 run. Gardner's two foul shots with 4:24 remaining closed the gap to 60-55, but the Great Danes pulled away with a 9-2 spurt.
Cornell 79, Harvard 77 -- Jason Hartford's layup for the Big Red (9-11, 4-2 Ivy) with two seconds left capped a late comeback over the visiting Crimson (12-7, 4-2), who received 27 points and 12 rebounds from Matt Stehle.
Princeton 52, Brown 37 -- Noah Savage had 23 points and the host Tigers (5-12, 3-1 Ivy) held the Bears (6-13, 2-4) without a field goal for the first 11:41 of the game.
Penn 74, Yale 52 -- The Bulldogs (11-10, 3-3) blew an early 12-point lead to the Quakers (11-6, 4-0), who rode Eric Osmundson's 17 points to victory in Philadelphia.
Dartmouth 78, Columbia 68 -- At New York, Michael Giovacchini and Mike Lang each had 16 points as the Big Green (3-15, 1-5 Ivy) broke a seven-game skid.
Providence 81, St. John's 73 -- The host Friars (10-10, 3-6 Big East) erased a 9-point second-half deficit behind Sharaud Curry's 19 points.
Holy Cross 77, Lafayette 61 -- Keith Simmons and Kevin Hamilton each scored 22 points to help the Crusaders (13-10, 6-2 Patriot) post a come-from-behind victory in Easton. Pa.
Hartford 75, Vermont 66 -- Kenny Adeleke had 23 points and 16 rebounds and the Hawks (9-12, 5-5 America East) hit 7 of 10 free throw attempts in the final 1:09 to outlast the Catamounts (9-11, 5-5) in Burlington, Vt.
Bentley 80, Pace 60 -- Guards Tim Forbes and Sean Cooke combined for 41 points, and Cooke became Bentley's career leader in 3-pointers with 258, as the Falcons (16-6, 13-4 Northeast-10) rolled in Pleasantville, N.Y.
Stonehill 67, Saint Rose 62 -- Marquis Taylor scored 17 points, Lance Clarke had 14, and the Skyhawks (17-4, 13-4 NE-10) prevailed in Albany, N.Y.
Bryant 62, Southern N.H. 59 -- At Manchester, N.H., John Williams had 16 points for the Bulldogs (15-7, 10-7 NE-10), including the go-ahead basket with 24 seconds remaining.
AIC 72, Franklin Pierce 67 -- John Huggins tallied 22 of his 26 points in the second half to spark the Yellow Jackets (11-11, 7-10 NE-10) in Rindge, N.H.
