Louisville's Pitino is denied 500th victory
Brian Roberts scored 28 points and visiting Dayton spoiled Rick Pitino's bid to become the 17th active Division 1 coach to reach 500 career victories, beating No. 14 Louisville, 70-65, yesterday.
Dayton (7-1) won its sixth consecutive game and beat the Cardinals for the second straight year by racing to an early lead, then answering a late push.
Derrick Caracter had 16 points and seven rebounds and Earl Clark had 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks for Louisville (5-2), but the Cardinals shot 43 percent from the field and couldn't get the stops when they needed them.
Louisville, playing without injured starters David Padgett and Juan Palacios, got within 3 points several times in the final minutes, but the Flyers made their free throws to clinch it.
Kansas 84, DePaul 66 - At Lawrence, Kan., Sasha Kaun scored the first 6 points in a 24-1 first-half run that sent the third-ranked Jayhawks past the Blue Demons in front of the 100th consecutive sellout in Allen Fieldhouse.
Mario Chalmers had 12 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals, and 7 assists for Kansas (9-0), which has not had a seat go unsold in its 52-year-old gym since the second game of the 2001-02 season.
Dar Tucker hit a basket with 11:12 left in the half and a few seconds later Karron Clarke's two free throws gave the Blue Demons (2-3) a 13-12 lead.

Texas is 9-0 for the first time since the 1981-82 season. The 26-point margin of victory marks the eighth time this season the Longhorns have won by at least 15 points.
The Owls (2-6) were led by Rodney Foster, who had 13 points, and Patrick Britton added 11.
Duke 95, Michigan 67 - Taylor King scored 18 points and fellow freshman Nolan Smith added a career-high 17 as the sixth-ranked Blue Devils routed the Wolverines at home.
Gerald Henderson had 12 points and DeMarcus Nelson and Jon Scheyer added 10 apiece for Duke (9-0), which shot 49 percent and built an insurmountable lead by reeling off 14 straight first-half points.
DeShawn Sims had 12 points in his seventh straight double-figure scoring game for Michigan (3-6), which started two freshmen and two sophomores while playing without starting point guard Jerret Smith for academic reasons.
UCLA 75, Davidson 63 - Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored 21 points and the seventh-ranked Bruins made up an 18-point deficit to beat the Wildcats in the John Wooden Classic at Anaheim, Calif.
Stephen Curry, the son of former NBA 3-point specialist Dell Curry, led Davidson (3-5) with 15 points, extending his streak of double-figure games to 35.

Pittsburgh 75, Washington 74 - Justin Dentmon's runner in the lane as the buzzer sounded was disallowed after a lengthy review, and the 12th-ranked Panthers (9-0) held off the Huskies in Seattle.
Wright St. 43, Butler 42 - Scottie Wilson and Todd Brown each scored 10 points to lead the Raiders (3-2, 1-1 Horizon) past the 13th-ranked Bulldogs (8-1, 1-1) in Fairborn, Ohio. Butler had one last chance, but A.J. Graves missed a 3-point attempt from the top of the key with three seconds left.
Indiana 70, Kentucky 51 - Jordan Crawford scored 20 points in his first career start, helping the 15th-ranked Hoosiers (8-1) run away from the Wildcats (4-3). It was Indiana's third victory in the last 14 games of the border series, and extended the Hoosiers' home winning streak to 23 games.
Texas A&M 109, Texas State 73 - The 16th-ranked Aggies (8-1) routed the Bobcats (5-3) behind 18 points each from DeAndre Jordan and Donald Sloan in College Station, Texas.
Gonzaga 85, Cal State Northridge 59 - At Spokane, Wash., Micah Downs scored 19 points as the No. 17 Bulldogs (8-2) whipped the Matadors (6-2).
Oregon 75, Utah 64 - Bryce Taylor scored a season-high 20 points to lead the 19th-ranked Ducks (7-1) to victory in Portland, Ore. The win was the 200th at Oregon for coach Ernie Kent. Tyler Kepkay scored 23 points to pace the Utes (5-3).
Arizona 78, Illinois 72 - Jerryd Bayless made six free throws in the final 31 seconds of overtime, and the 22d-ranked Wildcats (6-2) pulled out the victory at the United Center in Chicago.
Vanderbilt 90, Lipscomb 67 - A.J. Ogilvy scored a career-high 26 points to power the 23d-ranked Commodores (9-0) to victory in Nashville.
