Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points and showed no ill effects from a weekend concussion to help No. 1 North Carolina beat Nicholls State, 88-78, last night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Wayne Ellington added 20 points for the Tar Heels (10-0), who played at home for the first time in a month after six straight games away from the Smith Center. But North Carolina looked lethargic against the determined Colonels (4-8), who hung around and never let the Tar Heels run away with it - but never seriously threatened, either.

Ryan Bathie scored 17 points to lead the Colonels, who shot 14 for 28 from 3-point range.

Memphis 79, Cincinnati 69 - Freshman guard Derrick Rose scored a career-high 26 points, steadying the No. 2 Tigers over the host Bearcats.

Memphis improved to 9-0 for the first time since 1985-86, when the Tigers won their first 20 games, a school record.

Struggling Cincinnati (4-6) kept it close by taking advantage of two second-half technical fouls and the Tigers' inability to sustain anything for more than a few minutes.

Michigan St. 85, San Jose St. 45 - Raymar Morgan and Durrell Summers each scored 16 points and Drew Neitzel added 14 to help No. 9 Michigan State in a matchup of Spartans in East Lansing, Mich.

Morgan was 6 of 10 from the field and Neitzel was 6 of 9 for Michigan State (10-1).

DeShawn Wright led San Jose State (3-5) with 17 points, and Chris Oakes had 9 in his first game after transferring from Pepperdine.

Tennessee 86, UNC-Asheville 73 - Chris Lofton scored 24 points and became Tennessee's all-time leading 3-point shooter (346) in the 12th-ranked Volunteers' victory over the Bulldogs in Knoxville, Tenn.

J.P. Prince added 13 points and seven assists for Tennessee (10-1).

K.J. Garland had 22 points and Bryan Smithson added 21 for the Bulldogs (8-3).

Texas A&M 79, Detroit 39 - Freshman DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the No. 14 Aggies over the Titans (4-7) in College Station, Texas.

It was the third straight victory for the Aggies (10-1), and their most-lopsided win of the season.

Butler 83, Bradley 64 - A.J. Graves scored 21 points and freshman Mike Green had 17 points and nine rebounds as the No. 16 Bulldogs (10-1) routed the Braves in Indianapolis.

Daniel Ruffin and Tyrone Cole-Scott each had 11 points for Bradley (7-4).

Arizona 52, UNLV 49 - Jordan Hill had 16 points and 19 rebounds as the No. 19 Wildcats (8-2) rallied from an 8-point second-half deficit for a victory over the Rebels (7-3) in Las Vegas.

West Virginia 90, Radford 60 - Darris Nichols and Alex Ruoff each scored 23 points to lead the No. 24 Mountaineers (9-1) over the host Highlanders (4-9).

Delaware 71, Vermont 60 - Brian Johnson scored 17 points and had eight assists and Herb Courtney added 12 points and eight rebounds to help the Blue Hens (3-6) defeat the host Catamounts (3-7).

Providence 94, Sacred Heart 89 - Weyinmi Efejuku's 22 points led four double-figure scorers for the Friars (7-3), who held off the Pioneers (3-7) in Providence.

Bentley 79, Goldey-Beacom 60 - Yusuf Abdul-Ali had 11 of his 16 points in the first 10 minutes and Nate Fritsch added another 16 to lift the undefeated Falcons over the Lightning (6-2) in Waltham. Bentley (10-0) is the nation's No. 1 team in Division 2 and is 50-1 in its last 51 regular-season games.
