Matt Janning scored 20 points, Nkem Ojougboh added 17, and the duo combined for 10 of Northeastern's 12 points in overtime of the Huskies' 73-69 victory over Delaware last night at Matthews Arena.
Northeastern (7-10, 3-4 Colonial Athletic Association) went ahead for good when Chaisson Allen scored on a putback for a 69-67 lead with 40 seconds left in OT. Janning and Ojougboh then sealed the game with a pair of free throws each.
Alphonso Dawson led Delaware with 19 points, but just 3 after halftime.
Both teams had a chance to win in the final seconds of regulation, but Janning missed a 3- pointer with 12 seconds left and Marc Egerson of Delaware (8-9, 5-2) missed from beyond the arc as time expired with the score tied at 61-61.
BU 59, Stony Brook 52 - At Stony Brook, N.Y., Tyler Morris scored 18 points and Scott Brittain had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Terriers to the win.
Matt Wolff hit all four of his attempts from 3-point range and had 13 points for Boston University (5-12, 2-3 America East).
Ricky Lucas and Mitchell Beaufort each had 11 points for the Seawolves (4-13, 1-4).
A layup by Beaufort gave Stony Brook a 37-28 lead with 13:51 to play. The Terriers then went on an 18-6 run keyed by three of Wolff's 3-pointers.
UNH 81, Maine 75 - Eric Gilchrese scored 20 points and Tyrece Gibbs added 19 as the Wildcats combined early success from 3-point range with accurate free throw shooting down the stretch to win at Orono, Maine.
The Wildcats (5-12, 2-3 America East) opened the game by hitting five in a row from beyond the arc.
Mark Socoby led Maine (5-12, 1-3) with 25 points.
Albany 73, Hartford 63 - At West Hartford, Conn., Brent Wilson scored 17 points and collected 11 rebounds, and the Great Danes (9-9, 4-2 America East) held the Hawks to 35 percent shooting and 18 first-half points.
Yale 66, Brown 63 - Ross Morin scored 24 points and Travis Pinick added 11 points and 11 rebounds, helping the host Bulldogs (7-8) earn an overtime victory over the Bears (8-7) in the Ivy League opener for both schools.
Central Conn. 85, Fairleigh Dickinson 63 - At New Britain, Conn., Tristan Blackwood scored 18 points, leading five Blue Devils in double figures, and their 23-8 run at the end of the first half put the game out of reach.
Ken Horton added 15 for Central Connecticut (9-10, 5-3 Northeast Conference).
The Knights (5-11, 1-5) stayed close early behind the play of Sean Baptiste, who had 16 points in the first 20 minutes.
Sacred Heart 67, Mount St. Mary's 59 - Brice Brooks scored 19 points and the Pioneers (8-10, 4-3 NEC) closed the game on a 16-5 run to beat the Mountaineers (9-10, 6-2) at Emmitsburg, Md.
Quinnipiac 84, Long Island 80 - At Hamden, Conn., DeMario Anderson's 21 points helped the Bobcats (10-8, 6-1 NEC) edge the Blackbirds (10-7, 2-4). James Feldeine added 18 points for Quinnipiac - including 10 straight late in the second half - while LIU's Jaytornah Wisseh led all scorers with 23.
Bentley 87, Saint Rose 72 - At Waltham, Lew Finnegan scored a season-high 25 points and added seven rebounds and five assists, helping the Falcons - the No. 1-ranked team in the nation in Division 2 - extend their regular-season winning streak to 43 games.
Bentley (16-0, 11-0 Northeast-10) led from the games opening basket, roaring to a 19-6 lead in the first six minutes. Saint Rose (12-5, 9-3) made a couple of runs in the second half. A pair of threes by Steve Dagostino (23 points) cut the Bentley lead to 73-67 with 5:18 remaining, but the Falcons promptly went on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.
UMass-Lowell 83, St. Michael's 64 - At Colchester, Vt., Dashon Harpers 19 points paced four players in double figures as the River Hawks (6-9, 4-7 NE-10) overcame the Knights (6-10, 4-8). James Sorrentine led St. Michael's with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, giving him a schoolrecord 306 in his career.
Franklin Pierce 63, Stonehill 62 - At Rindge, N.H., Kinard Dozier scored a season-high 24 points and Jeff Manchesters free throw with 25 seconds remaining provided the difference as the Ravens (6-11, 2-10 NE-10) surprised the Skyhawks (12-7, 8-4).
Curry 80, Regis 65 - Tim Jones hit 12 of 15 shots - including 4 of 6 from 3-point range - on his way to 31 points in 29 minutes as the Colonels (6-9, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) bounced the Beacons (6-10, 0-4) at Milton. Mark Mastrullo added 17 points for Curry, which shot 52 percent from the field.
WNEC 74, Endicott 62 - At Springfield, Jim Bayne scored 22 points and Chris Devine added a career-high 18, helping the Golden Bears (8-6, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) prevail despite 53 percent shooting by the Gulls (4-10, 1-2).
Nichols 82, N.E. College 74 - At Dudley, Chris Vallee scored 22 points and the Bison (5-9, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) fended off the Pilgrims (4-10, 0-3) despite shooting just 34.2 percent from the field (26 of 76).
New England 79, Salve Regina 63 - Jaykyri Simpson scored 26 points - including 17 in the second half - and added nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the Nor'easters (8-7, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) over the Seahawks (4-10, 1-2) at Biddeford, Maine.
R.I. College 87, Eastern Conn. 54 - At Providence, Bobby Bailey led four players in double figures with 18 points in 21 minutes, and the Anchormen (13-2, 5-0 Little East) raced to a 47-19 lead at halftime and breezed past the Warriors (8-7, 2-3).
S. Maine 84, Western Conn. 83 - At Gorham, Maine, Jamaal Caterina scored 24 points and Drew Coppenrath added 18 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Huskies (5-9, 1-3 Little East) edge the Colonials (8-4, 2-2) despite behind held without a field goal for the final 5:14.
Westfield St. 67, Worcester St. 49 - At Worcester, Ryan Mauer scored 21 points, Dave Jaehnig added 20, and the duo combined to go 18 of 20 from the foul line, boosting the Cardinals (11-4, 1-1 MASCAC) over the Lancers (7-8, 0-2), who were plagued by 25 turnovers.
Salem St. 91, Fitchburg St. 63 - At Salem, Marquis Victor (18 points) led four players in double figures for the Vikings (10-3, 1-0 MASCAC), who shot 55.7 percent for the game and 62.5 percent after halftime to cruise to the victory over the Vikings (8-4, 1-1), who were paced by Tim Graham's 15 points.
Bridgewater St. 80, Framingham St. 72 - Roland Millien's 19 points helped the host Bears (8-6, 2-0 MASCAC) extend their winning streak to six with a win over the Rams (6-9, 1-1), who got 16 points from Michael Costa.
Conn. College 71, Wesleyan 65 - At New London, Conn., Shavar Benner scored 15 points, including a clinching 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining, and the Camels (12-2, 1-0 NESCAC) hit 12 of 21 3-point attempts to hold off the Cardinals (6-9, 0-1), who received a 16-point, 12-rebound effort from Nick Pelletier.
Trinity 82, Tufts 65 - At Hartford, Patrick Hasiuk and Paul Rowe each scored 16 points, combining to make 13 of 16 shots, helping the Bantams (13-3, 2-0 NESCAC) bound to a 20-point halftime lead on the way to a victory over the Jumbos (9-6, 0-2).
