Justin Fry scored the first 5 points of a 15-0 first-half run and Maryland-Baltimore County led for the final 37 minutes to cruise to a 62-40 victory over Boston University last night at Case Gym.
UMBC held BU without a field goal for almost 11 minutes to take control of the game that lifted them into sole possession of first place in the America East conference. The Terriers, playing their second straight game without injured leading scorer Corey Lowe, scored their fewest points this season.
The Retrievers (12-7, 5-2 AEC) led by as many as 17 in the first half. BU closed to within 8 in the second half, but UMBC broke the game open as the Terriers (5-13, 2-4) went the final 6:37 without a point.
Fry, who played just 15 minutes, scored all 12 of his points in the first half.
Tyler Morris had 12 points and John Holland had 11 and eight rebounds for the Terriers. With Lowe sidelined by a leg injury, BU shot just 25 percent from the floor, 18 percent in the first half. It was the Terriers' seventh loss in their last nine games.
Kentucky 72, Tennessee 66 - Patrick Patterson scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the host Wildcats knocked off the No. 3 Volunteers.
Perry Stevenson added 14 points and seven rebounds for Kentucky (8-9, 2-2 Southeastern Conference), which held the Volunteers (16-2, 3-1) to just three field goals over the final 10 minutes to snap their 11-game winning streak.
Tennessee star Chris Lofton led his team with 22 points, knocking down five 3-pointers to set the SEC record for career threes with 367, breaking the mark held by former Arkansas guard Pat Bradley.
Wisconsin 64, Michigan 61 - Marcus Landry and Michael Flowers both scored 14 points and the No. 11 Badgers (16-2, 6-0 Big Ten) held off the visiting Wolverines.
Michigan (5-14, 1-6) had a chance to take the lead with less than a minute left, but Manny Harris (26 points) lost the ball as he tried to drive the lane.
Drake 68, Creighton 60 - Josh Young hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer in overtime and the No. 22 Bulldogs (17-1, 8-0) celebrated their first national ranking in 33 years with a win over the host Bluejays, their Missouri Valley Conference nemesis.
Merrimack 69, Saint Anselm 63 - Darren Duncan had 21 points and seven rebounds to help the visiting Warriors hand coach Bert Hammel his 400th victory in 28 years at the North Andover school.
Hammel is the 24th coach in Division 2 to surpass the plateau and the fourth in the Northeast 10 (Brian Beaury, St. Rose; Stan Spirou Southern N.H.; and Keith Dickson, Saint Anselm).
Bentley 71, Pace 66 - Jason Westrol scored 23 points, including two clinching free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining, to lift the No. 1-ranked Falcons (17-0, 12-0 NE 10) to victory in Waltham.
Bentley has won 44 straight regular-season games.
Stonehill 69, Southern Conn. 65 - Nick Smith had 16 points, including 6 for 6 from the free throw line, and four Skyhawks scored in double figures as host Stonehill (13-7, 9-4 NE 10) held off the Owls.
Southern Maine 72, UMass-Boston 62 - Drew Coppenrath hit 10 of 15 shots for 25 points to lead the Huskies (7-9, 3-3 LEC) over the host Beacons.

UMass 91, Yale 57 - Pam Rosanio had 23 points, 4, rebounds, 2 assists, and a blocked shot as the Minutewomen tamed the Bulldogs at the Mullins Center.
Stefanie Gerardot had 18 points and Kate Mills added 17 for UMass (9-9), which shot 64 percent from the field.
Lindsey Williams scored 13 to lead Yale (3-11).
Villanova 70, Providence 50 - Tia Grant had 18 points to help send the visiting Wildcats to a Big East victory over the Friars.
Rutgers 71, Cincinnati 41 - Kia Vaughn scored 17 points, and Heather Zurich added 16 to help the No. 5 Scarlet Knights (16-2, 6-0 Big East) beat the host Bearcats and extend their winning streak to 11.
Pittsburgh 70, St. John's 64 - Shavonte Zellous scored 28 points as the No. 19 Panthers won their ninth straight game by halting the Red Storm in New York.
DePaul 81, Notre Dame 80 - Deidre Naughton scored 20 points and the visiting Blue Demons (14-4, 3-2 Big East) shot a season-high 60 percent to beat the No. 16 Irish (15-4, 3-2).
Stonehill 81, Southern Conn. 69 - Bethany Tighe scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half to help the No. 23-ranked Skyhawks (14-4, 10-2 NE 10) run away from the visiting Owls.
Merrimack 74, Saint Anselm 64 - Kara Borelli scored 14 points and the visiting Warriors (6-14, 2-12 NE 10) went on an 11-0 run midway through the second half to top the Hawks.
AIC 57, UMass-Lowell 46 - A 25-point night from Alexis Castro lifted the Yellow Jackets (11-6, 8-5 NE 10) past the visiting River Hawks.
Southern Maine 64, UMass-Boston 56 - Angela Santa Fe had 15 points as the visiting Huskies (15-1) opened a 36-16 halftime lead to stop the Beacons.
Tufts 61, Wheaton 36 - Colleen Hart and Khalilah Ummah had 14 points apiece to spur the 18th-ranked (Division 3) Jumbos (14-1) to victory in Norton.![]()
