UConn buries Badgers to capture Paradise Jam title

Jerome Dyson scored 21 points as second-ranked Connecticut beat No. 25 Wisconsin, 76-57, to win the Paradise Jam championship last night in Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands.
Jeff Adrien had 14 points and Kemba Walker added 12 points and four steals for the Huskies (5-0), who led, 38-28, at halftime. Hasheem Thabeet, who finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks, was the tournament MVP.
Keaton Nankivil led the Badgers (4-1) with 11 points, and Marcus Landry, Trevon Hughes, and Lon Leuer had 9 apiece.
N. Carolina 115, Chaminade 70 - Danny Green scored a career-high 26 points and the No. 1 Tar Heels (4-0), again playing without rehabbing Tyler Hansbrough, rolled in their opening game of the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.
Hansbrough missed three weeks of practice and the first two games of the season with a stress reaction in his right shin, and the reigning player of the year wasn't expected to play all three games in the three-day tournament. He played 25 minutes and had 13 points Friday against UC Santa Barbara, but didn't see any time against the Division 2 Silver Swords.
Texas 68, Saint Joseph's 50 - A.J. Abrams had 17 points, shooting 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and the No. 6 Longhorns (3-0) turned in another strong defensive effort to win their opener in the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.
Texas had allowed 44.5 points and 28.7 percent field goal shooting while forcing an average of 22 turnovers in its first two wins. The Hawks (1-2) finished 17 of 58 from the field (29.3 percent), including 4 of 21 from 3-point range, and turned it over 18 times.
Damion James and Gary Johnson both had 14 points for Texas. Johnson led the Longhorns with 10 rebounds.
Notre Dame 88, Indiana 50 - Two prominent programs from Indiana separated by a four-hour drive matched up in the first round of the Maui Invitational, with the No. 8 Fighting Irish coasting to an easy victory behind 21 points from Tory Jackson.
Fellow guard Kyle McAlarney added 18 points as Notre Dame (3-0) advanced to face Texas in the semifinals today. McAlarney finished 6 of 11 from behind the arc, while Jackson shot 10 of 17 from the field and added six assists.
Notre Dame shot 50.7 percent from the field (38 of 75). The Hoosiers (2-1) were 21 of 53 overall (39.6 percent) and just 1 of 12 from 3-point range.
Syracuse 89, Florida 83 - Paul Harris had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Jonny Flynn scored 18 points, and the Orange beat the No. 17 Gators in the semifinals of the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo.
Syracuse (4-0) picked apart Florida's zone with dribble drives and spot-up shooting from the perimeter. The Orange shot 51 percent from the field and had 19 assists on 31 field goals, taking control with a big run early in the second half.
Alex Tyus finished with a career-best 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting and Nick Calathes had 19 points for Florida (3-1), which lost despite getting 12 steals.
Wake Forest 62, Winston-Salem St. 31 - After a sloppy first half at home, the No. 19 Demon Deacons (3-0) shot 68 percent in the second half and held the Rams to one field goal during a 15 1/2-minute stretch.
Wake Forest entered the game averaging an Atlantic Coast Conference-best 107 points, but committed 23 turnovers to fall well below that total. Jeff Teague led the Demon Deacons with 14 points, matching the Rams' Jamal Durham for the game high.
Miami 80, San Diego 45 - Coming off a semifinal loss to Connecticut Sunday, the No. 22 Hurricanes (4-1) bounced back against the Toreros to claim third place in the Paradise Jam tournament in the US Virgin Islands.
Brian Asbury scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for Miami, which scored 21 points off 15 San Diego turnovers.
Davidson 76, Florida Atlantic 60 - Stephen Curry connected on five 3-pointers and finished with 39 points for the No. 24 Wildcats (4-1), who put away the visiting Owls (3-2) with a 15-1 run midway through the second half.
Merrimack 89, Southern N.H. 71 - At North Andover, Darren Duncan became the 36th player in Merrimack history to score 1,000 career points, finishing with 20 points and 13 assists to lead the Warriors (5-0, 3-0 Northeast-10) past the Penmen (2-1, 1-1).
Women
Virginia 77, Colorado 43 - Chelsea Shine netted 15 points and the No. 16 Cavaliers (3-1) rolled at home behind a 23-5 second-half run.
Southern N.H. 54, Merrimack 52 - Stephanie Houghton had a rough shooting night (3 of 12 from 3-point range) but still finished with 16 points to lift the Penwomen (2-1, 1-1 Northeast-10) to a narrow victory over the Warriors (1-4, 0-2) in North Andover.![]()
