Lin's hot hand lifts Harvard

Crimson surge past Holy Cross

With Harvard holding a 1-point lead with five minutes to play, Jeremy Lin scored 7 straight points to send the Crimson to a 69-59 victory over Holy Cross last night at Lavietes Pavilion.

Lin finished with 30 points, 19 coming in the second half. He shot 4 of 5 from 3-point range, and added 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Harvard (2-1) sank 32 of 39 free throw attempts to keep its late lead.

Greg McCarthy led Holy Cross (2-3) with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.

N. Carolina 98, Oregon 69 - Tyler Hansbrough returned the lineup and scored 16 points as the top-ranked Tar Heels (5-0) rolled over the Ducks (3-2) in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Notre Dame 81, Texas 80 - In the other Maui semifinal, Luke Harangody had 29 points and 13 rebounds as the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish (4-0) held off the No. 6 Longhorns (3-1).

Pittsburgh 74, Belmont 60 - Sam Young poured in 33 points for the No. 4 Panthers (5-0), who cruised at home despite the absence of center DeJuan Blair, who missed the game with right knee inflammation.

Marquette 85, Texas Southern 68 - At Milwaukee, Jerel McNeal had 20 points for the No. 15 Golden Eagles (4-0), who scored 29 points off 20 Tiger turnovers.

Syracuse 89, Kansas 81 - Jonny Flynn forced overtime with a late 3-pointer and finished with 25 points to help the Orange (4-0) knock off the No. 22 Jayhawks (3-1) and capture the CBE Classic title in Kansas City, Mo.

Florida 86, Washington 84 - Nick Calathes scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half to help the No. 17 Gators (4-1) win a tight one with the Huskies (2-3) in the consolation game of the CBE Classic.

Villanova 71, Monmouth 48 - The No. 20 Wildcats (4-0) had no trouble at home, getting 19 points from Dante Cunningham and 18 from Corey Stokes.

Davidson 78, Loyola (Md.) 48 - The No. 24 Wildcats (5-1) were never threatened at home, but stunningly received no points from Stephen Curry, who was averaging 35 per game but attempted just three shots because of constant double-teams.

URI 94, Hartford 72 - Keith Cothran scored 22 points and Jimmy Baron added 18, all on 3-pointers, as the Rams (4-1) crushed the visiting Hawks (1-4).

Vermont 78, Delaware 63 - The Catamounts (2-2) beat the Blue Hens (2-3) for just the second time in 15 meetings in Newark, Del., as Colin McIntosh scored a career-high 25 points.

Quinnipiac 73, Maine 66 - Justin Rutty shot 13 of 16 from the field and tallied 30 points to pace the Bobcats (3-2) past the Black Bears (3-2) in Orono, Maine.

Dartmouth 68, Furman 63 - Alex Barnett delivered 24 points for the host Big Green (1-3), including a clinching basket with 20 seconds left.

N. Carolina 96, Wofford 42 - Freshman Chay Shegog scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and the No. 2 Tar Heels (6-0) held the visitors to 20 percent shooting.

Louisville 59, Utah 48 - Angel McCoughtry had 13 points and two key steals in the final minutes as the No. 7 Cardinals (4-0) held on in Salt Lake City.

UMass-Lowell 75, Stonehill 73 - Antonnea Robinson hit a tiebreaking jumper with 1.7 seconds left, giving the River Hawks (3-2, 1-1 Northeast-10) an upset victory over the fifth-ranked Skyhawks (4-1, 2-1) in Easton.

Franklin Pierce 66, Bentley 55 - The seventh-ranked Ravens (3-1, 2-1 NE-10) beat the Falcons (3-4, 1-1) for the first time in 18 all-time meetings, with Johannah Leedman totaling 24 points in Waltham.
