Crusaders roll over Terriers

Andrew Beinert scored a career-high 18 points and Andrew Keister added 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Holy Cross to a 68-49 victory over Boston University last night at Agganis Arena.

The Crusaders (5-9) raced to a 12-3 lead in the first four minutes and moved to a 12-point edge before the Terriers (5-7) recovered for a 7-2 run that put them back in the game. Holy Cross took a 29-22 halftime lead. Jake O'Brien led the Terriers with 16 points.

The Crusaders beat the Terriers for the sixth straight time and lead the series, 50-12. BU suffered its eighth straight regular-season loss at Agganis Arena.

BU opened the second half with two free throws to cut the lead to 5, but the Crusaders went on a 10-0 run and began to put the game out of reach. The Terriers were held to 37.2 percent shooting from the floor, and BU's Corey Lowe had a season-low 4 points and was ejected in the second half after his second technical foul. Lowe had averaged 18.8 points coming into the game.

Colin Cunningham had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals for Holy Cross, while R.J. Evans added 12 points and six rebounds.

Bryant 69, Yale 58 - Peter Lambert scored 16 points to pace host Bryant to an upset victory over Yale, snapping a 10-game losing skid.

Bryant (2-11) outscored Yale, 50-24, in the second half for its first home win since moving to Division 1.

Ross Morin scored 17 points for Yale (2-9), which lost its fifth straight. Yale missed all 12 3-point attempts, and shot only 31 percent from the floor in the second half.

American 68, Brown 53 - Garrison Carr scored 22 points and hit five 3-pointers as the Eagles defeated the Bears (5-7) in Washington.

Derrick Mercer scored 11 points and Jordan Nichols added 10 points for the Eagles (7-6), who used a 13-5 run over the final three minutes of the first half to pull away before the break.

Texas 78, Appalachian State 43 - Dexter Pittman set career highs with 21 points and 11 rebounds, leading the No. 8 Longhorns over the Mountaineers in Austin, Texas.

Pittman scored the final 7 Texas points of the first half and the first 6 of the second half as the Longhorns (11-2) went on a 19-2 run to take a 44-23 lead with 14:58 remaining.

Texas held Appalachian State (5-5) scoreless for nearly seven minutes as the Longhorns used Pittman's inside play to take control.

UCLA 69, Oregon State 46 - Darren Collison and Michael Roll each scored 16 points and the No. 12 Bruins (11-2) topped the Beavers (5-6) in Corvallis, Ore. Calvin Haynes had 16 points for Oregon State, which went winless in the conference last season.

Syracuse 59, South Florida 54 - Jonny Flynn made a key jumper with two minutes to go and Eric Devendorf hit two free throws in the closing seconds, helping the No. 13 Orange (14-1, 2-0 Big East) hold off the host Bulls (5-8, 0-1).

South Carolina 85, Baylor 84 - Zam Fredrick hit a go-ahead layup with 5.1 seconds left and the host Gamecocks (10-2) rallied over the No. 19 Bears (12-2) in Waco, Texas.

Arizona State 90, Stanford 60 - Jeff Pendergraph scored 21 of his career-high 31 points in the first half and the No. 17 Sun Devils (12-1) handed the host Cardinal (10-1) their first loss.

Stanford 64, Arizona State 61 - Jillian Harmon scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and made a key steal down the stretch to help the No. 11 Cardinal beat the Sun Devils in Tempe, Ariz., in the teams' Pac-10 opener.

Kayla Pedersen added 17 points and six rebounds for Stanford (10-3). She hit a free throw with six seconds remaining but missed her second attempt, allowing the Sun Devils (8-5) to try a last-second shot that could have tied it. Dymond Simon was off on a 25-footer, however, and Stanford held on.

California 56, Arizona 46 - Ashley Walker scored 23 points to lead the No. 13 Bears (10-2, 1-0 Pac-10) over the Wildcats (7-5, 0-1) in Tucson.

Virginia 62, Georgia 60 - Lyndra Littles scored 14 of her 23 points in the final seven minutes to help the No. 16 Cavaliers (12-2) hold off the Lady Bulldogs (9-5) in Charlottesville, Va.

Boston University 82, UMass 75 - Kristi Dini scored 23 points and Jesyka Burks-Wiley had 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Terriers cruised by the host Minutewomen. Aly Hinton and Amarac Umez-Eronini added 10 points each for BU (6-6). UMass (6-7) was led by Stefanie Gerardot, who had 23 points.

St. Bonaventure 67, Bryant 58 - Armelia Horton and Katelyn Murray each had 11 points and the Bonnies had five players in double figures to beat the Bulldogs in Smithfield, R.I. The Bonnies (10-4) led by double digits at 11:20 of the first half, 19-9, and never trailed. The Bulldogs (4-8) were led by Kelsey O'Keefe, who had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Holy Cross 68, Maine 63 - Brittany Boser scored a career-high 24 points, but the Black Bears (2-11) fell just short after leading the Crusaders for most of the game in Worcester. The Crusaders, led by Briana McFadden's 22 points, climbed to 3-10. McFadden's two free throws with 1:21 left put the Crusaders in the lead for good at 64-63.

Xavier 62, UNH 36 - Brittney Moore scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and led four players in double figures as the Musketeers (11-4) crushed the Wildcats in Cincinnati. UNH (2-11) was led by Candace Williams, who scored 10 points.

Lafayette 66, Princeton 64 - Elizabeth Virgin's last-second layup broke a 64-64 tie as the Tigers squandered a 22-point lead to fall to the Leopards in Easton, Pa. Lauren Edwards scored a career-best 26 points and had five rebounds and two steals to lead the Tigers (4-9). Cristin Zavocki led Lafayette (6-8) with 15 points.
