Vermont snaps BU win streak

Boston University's eight-game winning streak came to a crashing halt last night in Burlington, Vt., as the Terriers were dominated in the second half of a 75-47 loss that gave Vermont sole possession of first place in America East.
Down by 4 (36-32) at the half, the Terriers (14-10, 9-3) shot just 6 of 23 after the break while the Catamounts were 13 of 24. Vermont (19-7, 10-3) had second-half runs of 12-5, 15-2, and 10-3.
BU's Corey Lowe netted a game-best 20 points, while Mike Trimboli had 17 points to lead Vermont's five double-figure scorers.
The win gave the Catamounts a season sweep of BU. The Terriers will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Binghamton (16-8, 9-3).
UMass 91, Fordham 68 - The Minutemen (9-13, 4-5 Atlantic 10) opened with a 9-0 run, led by 29 at the half, and cruised in New York as Tony Gaffney and Ricky Harris each scored 19 points.
Gaffney scored UMass's first 5 points, and Luke Bonner had a pair of 3-pointers in a 12-0 run that made it 34-13 with 8:46 left before the break. UMass ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 57-28 lead into the locker room.
URI 87, St. Bonaventure 80 - Jimmy Baron shot 6 of 10 from 3-point range and finished with 28 points to carry the Rams (17-8, 6-4 A-10) to the home victory.
Holy Cross 62, Army 59 - Andrew Keister collected 21 points and 12 rebounds and the Crusaders (13-11, 8-1) held on in Worcester to remain in first place in the Patriot League.
Maine 68, Hartford 63 - Marc Socoby's 15 points led a balanced showing by the host Black Bears (9-16, 4-8 America East). Michael Turner powered the Hawks (6-20, 2-10) with 26 points.
BU scored 30 points off 24 turnovers by the Seawolves (5-16, 3-6) and shot 23 of 29 from the free throw line, including an 11-of-13 showing by Burks-Wiley.
Vermont 73, UMBC 49 - Amy Rosenkrantz had 14 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in an easy road win for the Catamounts (13-10, 7-3 America East).
UMass 70, Temple 61 - Kristina Danella (19 points) topped four double-figure scorers for the host Minutewomen (10-14, 3-6 A-10), who beat the Owls (15-8, 6-3) for the first time since 2003.
Army 63, Holy Cross 62 - Erin Anthony had 24 points in a home win for the Black Knights (15-9, 5-4 Patriot). The Crusaders (10-14, 5-4) were paced by Bethany O'Dell's 26 points.![]()
