Purdue routs Michigan St.

Spartans still lead Big Ten

JaJuan Johnson scored 17 points to lead No. 19 Purdue over No. 6 Michigan State, 72-54, last night and move the Boilermakers within one game of the Spartans in the Big Ten standings.

E'Twaun Moore scored 13 points and Robbie Hummel added 11 for Purdue in his first start since missing three games with a hairline fracture in his lower back. The Boilermakers (20-6, 9-4) won their third straight.

Kalin Lucas scored 14 points and Durrell Summers added 11 for Michigan State (20-5, 10-3), which had won three in a row.

Marquette 79, Seton Hall 67 - Wesley Matthews scored 24 points and the No. 10 Golden Eagles (22-4, 11-2 Big East) opened the second half with a decisive run to beat the visiting Pirates (14-11, 5-8).

Clemson 93, Maryland 64 - Trevor Booker had 11 points and 14 rebounds to lead the host Tigers (21-4, 7-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), who bounced back from a loss to Virginia. Landon Milbourne scored 13 points for the Terrapins (16-9, 5-6).

Vermont 77, UMBC 65 - Colin McIntosh and Mike Trimboli scored 15 points apiece to help the visiting Catamounts (21-7, 12-3 America East), who have won 12 of their last 13 games and snapped the Retrievers' three-game winning streak.

Penn 62, Princeton 55 - Tyler Bernardini scored 18 points, hitting 9 of 11 free throws, as the Quakers (8-13, 4-3 Ivy League) needed overtime to beat the host Tigers (9-11, 4-3).

Bryant 70, N.J. Tech 46 - Cecil Gresham totaled 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host Bulldogs (8-19) over the Highlanders (1-25), who got their only win of the season against Bryant Jan. 21.

Salem St. 77, Bridgewater St. 69 - Dylan Holmes had 28 points and Stevie Celestin added 15 points and nine assists as the visiting Vikings (19-5) beat the Bears (17-6).

Eastern Conn. 73, Keene St. 53 - Edwin Ortiz led four players in double figures with 14 points as the host Warriors (12-12) knocked off the Owls (10-13).

Women's basketball
Oklahoma 80, Texas Tech 72 - Courtney Paris scored 23 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to help the No. 2 Sooners (23-2, 11-0 Big 12) rally to beat the host Lady Raiders (14-11, 4-7).

Louisville 89, St. John's 60 - Angel McCoughtry scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her 51st double-double to help the No. 8 Cardinals (24-3) beat the visiting Red Storm (15-10).

Notre Dame 86, South Florida 79 - Lindsay Schrader scored 26 points and Becca Bruszewski added 20 to help the No. 24 Fighting Irish (18-6) rally past the host Bulls (18-8).

Salem St. 69, Bridgewater St. 60 - Danielle Jenkins had 19 points and 14 rebounds, helping the Lady Vikings (9-15) beat the host Bears (13-10).

Women's hockey
New Hampshire 3, Harvard 2 - Jenn Wakefield scored a goal and assisted on Courtney Birchard's winner, sending the Wildcats (20-5-5) past the host Crimson (15-9-3).
