BU, UVM knocked out

Darryl Proctor scored 33 points, including 2 to force overtime, rallying Maryland-Baltimore County to a 79-75 upset of third-seeded Boston University in the America East tournament quarterfinals yesterday in Albany, N.Y.

The sixth-seeded Retrievers (14-16) play in today's semifinals against Albany, which upset second-seeded Vermont.

BU (17-13) lost despite 33 points and seven rebounds by Corey Lowe. The Terriers led by 8 when Lowe scored with 3:13 left, but BU was outscored, 9-1, the rest of regulation and hit only one basket in the final 8:13, counting overtime.

Albany 56, Vermont 52 - Mike Johnson hit five free throws in the final 1:18 of overtime and the seventh-seeded Great Danes (15-15) shocked the Catamounts.

Marqus Blakely had 22 points for Vermont (23-8), which used a 15-1 run to go up, 47-44, with 2:26 left.

UNH 76, Stony Brook 73 - Tyrece Gibbs scored 18 points and the Wildcats (14-15) advanced to a semifinal matchup against top seed Binghamton.

Binghamton 73, Hartford 65 - Malik Alvin scored 29 points, helping the Bearcats (21-8) oust the Hawks (7-26).
