AMHERST - Derek Kellogg never has offered his team’s youth as an excuse for its struggles this season. Clearly, though, the inexperience of a University of Massachusetts squad with six first-year players logging significant time has been one of the underlying explanations for a lot of losses, many of them close games squandered at crunch time.
