McGlynn, Apfeld lead Vermont over Marist 84-75

UNCASVILLE, Conn.—Luke McGlynn scored 22 points and Luke Apfeld 19 to lead Vermont to an 84-75 victory over Marist on Saturday night.

The Catamounts (2-1) made their first eight shots of the second half and shot 63.6 percent (14 of 22) in the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Red Foxes (0-3) at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic.

Vermont cooled off, going without a field goal for nearly seven minutes, as Marist got back within three, 59-56, with 7:26 remaining. But the Catamounts scored eight of the next 10 points on six free throws and a layup by Apfeld.

Apfeld scored 15 points in the second half and blocked three shots in the game. McGlynn, a freshman, was 12 of 12 from the foul line and Brian Voelkel had nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Devin Price and Chavaughn Lewis scored 15 points apiece for Marist.
