Yale edges Sacred Heart 73-71
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Reggie Willhite scored 23 points and Greg Mangano added 21, including seven of Yale's last eight points in the final 5 minutes, as the Bulldogs beat Sacred Heart 73-71 Monday night.
Sacred Heart led for the entire first half but Yale (6-2) caught up in a close second half, trailing 71-70 with just under two minutes left thanks in part to Mangano.
The Bulldogs, who snapped a three game skid against Sacred Heart, missed multiple shots on a possession with 1 1/2 minutes left, but Mangano was fouled pulling down an offensive rebound. He knocked down two foul shots with 1:18 left for a 72-71 lead and Yale never trailed again. The Pioneers went without a basket for the final 1:56, and Michael Grace knocked down a free throw with 9 second remaining for the final margin.
Chris Evans led the Pioneers (5-5) with 16 points.
