Georgia State pounds Rhode Island 96-64
ATLANTA—Devonta White scored 20 points and Brandon McGee added 18 off the bench to lead Georgia State to a 96-64 win over Rhode Island Saturday.
The Panthers (7-3) have won seven straight games -- one shy of the school record. The record mark of eight consecutive wins was set by the Panthers' 2001 NCAA Tournament team. Georgia State's start under first-year coach Ron Hunter is its best since that 2000-01 team started 11-1.
The Panthers had their best offensive performance since a 99-72 win over Delaware to open the 2005-06 season.
Georgia State took control of the game with a strong offensive first half in which the Panthers committed just one turnover en route to a 46-33 lead at halftime. Trailing 15-13 at the 12:37 mark of the first half, Georgia State scored the next 14 points and never looked back.
Jamal Wilson led the Rams (1-9) with 20 points.
