CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—John Henson had 24 points and 10 rebounds to help fourth-ranked North Carolina beat Long Beach State 84-78 on Saturday night.

Harrison Barnes added 20 points as the Tar Heels (8-2) rallied from a 45-40 halftime deficit to win their second straight game to open a monthlong home stand. North Carolina led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but couldn't pull away and had to keep making plays into the final seconds to secure this one against the 49ers (4-5).

Reserve Reggie Bullock scored 15 points for the second straight game for the Tar Heels, including a stretch in which he scored eight straight points midway through the second half. That surge started a 13-2 spurt that helped put North Carolina ahead to stay, with Henson closing the run with a dunk off a feed from Bullock to make it 72-61 with 8 1/2 minutes left.
