LEXINGTON, Ky.—Kentucky has announced walk-on guard Sam Malone tore a ligament in his left knee in the Wildcats' win on Saturday night against Chattanooga.

Malone played in six games and has scored a total of six points and has two rebounds in 13 minutes while becoming a fan favorite. Malone played 3 minutes in the third-ranked Wildcats' 87-62 victory over Chattanooga.

Head coach John Calipari says Malone is a great teammate and an even better person.

Calipari says it's Malone's fourth knee injury. There is no timetable for his return or for the surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee. Recovery typically takes nine to 12 months.

The 5-foot-11 freshman averaged 14 points, nine assists and four steals as a senior at Scituate High in Massachusetts.
