UMass draws Miss. St. in NIT

The University of Massachusetts may have finished two wins short of playing in the NCAA Tournament, but the Minutemen still have more basketball to play. They were one of 32 teams selected Sunday to play in the National Invitation Tournament, and face Mississippi State on Tuesday in Starkville, Miss.

UMass (22-11) lost to St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 semifinals. Mississippi State (21-11) was ranked as high as 14th, but lost six of its last eight to fall off the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The last time the Minutemen participated in the NIT, they lost in the 2008 title game to Ohio State . . . Quinnipiac plays at Penn on Wednesday in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational . . . Yale plays at Fairfield Wednesday in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
