Student bounced for 'Pot shot

A prank backfired Monday night, and because it did, a 20-year-old Boston University student wasn't in attendance to watch the final period of the Terriers' dramatic 3-2 win over Boston College in the Beanpot championship.

According to police reports, Charles Geyer of Allston was escorted from the TD Banknorth Garden between the second and third periods after he grabbed the BC mascot. Witnesses told police that Geyer hopped a railing into the runway used for the Zamboni, got onto the ice, and made contact with the mascot, who had just entertained the crowd between periods. Security officials wrestled Geyer to the ground in the runway and notified police.

The BC student -- who was dressed as ''Baldwin" the Eagle -- was ''stunned more than anything," said BC spokesman Jack Dunn, but otherwise unhurt. Dunn said it's a longstanding policy not to disclose the name of a student who dresses as a team mascot.

Police said Geyer was cited for disturbance of a public assembly and will be summonsed to Boston Municipal Court.
