Matt Nelson of Westwood has been named captain of the 2008-2009 Yale University men's hockey team, the first Massachusetts native to lead the Elis in 16 years.
A Noble & Greenough graduate, the 6-foot, 205-pound forward was limited to 18 games as a junior because of injury, collecting two goals and three assists. The Bulldogs ended the season 16-14-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ECAC. He has nine goals and six assists in his career and has played 73 games the last three seasons.
"I lead by example," Nelson said in a press release. "I believe that the closer a team is, the more success it will achieve. My most important task is preserving and enhancing the already tight bond between all team members. The closer we become off the ice, and the more we can disregard age and class, the more success we're going to have as a team."
The last Yale captain from the Bay State was Boxford native Jeff Blaeser in 1991 and 1992.
The duo led the Crimson to a third-place finish at the New England Team Race Championships for the Fowle Trophy at the Edgewood Yacht Club. The finish also helped the team earn a berth in the ICSA/APS Team Race National championships at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, R.I., May 30 through June 1. This will be the third trip to the championships for Dolbec and fourth for Kovacs.
In the team's last game of the season, Cohen went 2 for 5, drove in a run, and scored in a 14-3 win over Swarthmore.
Fellini joins the Sharks after spending two years as the regional group sales representative for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Fellini attended Dean College and has worked in sales for the Southern Professional Hockey League, Western Professional Hockey League, International Hockey League, Central Hockey League, and Major League Roller Hockey.
"Joseph has a wealth of experience in professional sports ticket sales and we welcome him as the Sharks look to continue to build on the first two seasons in Worcester," said Sharks president and CEO Michael T. Lehr in a press release.![]()
