Late spurt burns UMass-Lowell

Colin Wilson scored his second goal of the game with 15 seconds remaining to snap a 4-4 tie as Boston University rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat UMass-Lowell, 6-4, last night in a Hockey East contest at Tsongas Arena.

Chris Higgins scored his second of the night (an empty-netter) with a single tick left on the clock for the Terriers (6-1-0, 3-1-0), who had three consecutive goals to close the game.

Mike Potacco had two goals for the River Hawks (3-3-0, 1-1-0), the second of which gave UMass-Lowell a 4-3 edge with 5:31 left in the game. But Higgins evened it up with 2:14 remaining to set up Wilson's winner.

RPI 3, Harvard 2 - Mathias Lange stopped 26 shots and Chase Polacek scored the winner on the power play at 11:56 of the third period as the host Engineers handed the 18th-ranked Crimson their first loss.

Steve Rolecek and Nick Coskren scored for Harvard (2-1-0, 2-1-0 ECAC), which received a 23-save effort from Matt Hoyle.

Paul Kerins and Matt Angers-Goulet added tallies for RPI (2-5-1, 1-1-0).

Vermont 2, Providence 2 - Pierce Norton scored twice as the Friars rallied from a 2-0 hole to earn a Hockey East tie with the Catamounts (3-2-2, 0-2-1).

Justin Gate had 28 stops for Providence (2-4-1, 0-4-1).

UNH 2, Minnesota 2 - Jay Barribal found the net with a power-play strike eight minutes into the third period to lift the fourth-ranked Gophers (4-0-3) into a tie with the No. 5 Wildcats at Minneapolis.

Phil DeSimone and Peter LeBlanc scored for UNH (4-1-3), which received a 39-save performance by Brian Foster.

Colgate 1, Quinnipiac 0 - Francois Brisebois scored on a power play 8:43 into the third period and Charles Long stopped 19 shots to give the Raiders (4-1-0, 1-0-0) an ECAC victory over the host Bobcats (2-3-0, 0-1-0).

Mercyhurst 4, Holy Cross 3 - Ryan Toomey scored 13 seconds into overtime to power the Mavericks to an Atlantic Hockey Conference victory in Worcester.

Bentley 1, UConn 0 - Jeff Gumaer scored a power-play goal at 12:45 of the first period and Joe Calvi had 24 saves for the host Falcons in Atlantic Hockey action.

St. Lawrence 3, Yale 2 - Brandon Bollig found the net 1:14 into overtime as the host Saints earned an ECAC victory over the Bulldogs.

Football
Penn 14, Princeton 9
- Third-string quarterback Keiffer Garton rushed and threw for his first collegiate touchdowns as the Quakers held off the Tigers at Princeton, N.J., in the 100th meeting between the teams.

Garton passed for 132 yards and rushed 18 times for 89 yards to help Penn (5-3, 4-1 Ivy League) stay in the title chase.

Atlantic Coast semifinals
- At Cary, N.C., North Carolina eliminated BC, 2-0. The fourth-seeded Eagles (13-5-2) fell behind late in the first half, and the top-seeded Tar Heels (18-1-2) scored their second goal against BC's Jillian Mastroianni (nine saves) with seven minutes to play.

Big East semifinals - At South Bend, Ind., Connecticut goalie Stephanie Labbe made seven saves as the third-seeded Huskies and No. 2 seed West Virginia fought to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes, then Labbe provided one of four penalty kicks that sent UConn (7-8-6) into tomorrow's championship game . . . Notre Dame improved to 20-0, beating Marquette, 2-0, on goals by Michele Weisenhoffer and Taylor Knaack.

America East semifinals
- Host and top-seeded Albany ousted BU, 1-0, preventing the Terriers (10-10) from making a fifth straight trip to the conference final. Michele Polizois scored in the first half for the Great Danes (11-9) . . . Also at Albany, N.Y., Meg Shea of Melrose scored at 4:53 of overtime, giving UNH (9-10) a 3-2 victory over Maine (6-10) and a berth in tomorrow's championship game.

Northeast semifinals - Top-seeded Lock Haven (18-3) defeated Quinnipiac, 4-1, in Lock Haven, Pa., behind two first-half goals by Blair Wynne . . . Rider (13-6) took care of Sacred Heart, 2-0, on goals by Tricia Crotty and Virginia Egusquiza.
