Eagles remain on the move
Cerrone a force in win over NU

Hannah Cerrone had a goal and two assists as host Boston College scored three first-half goals and ran away from Northeastern to claim a 4-0 victory yesterday in the second round of the NCAA women's soccer tournament.
The Eagles (15-5-2) advanced to the round of 16 next weekend and play Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State, which beat BC, 1-0, Oct. 5. The Eagles have advanced to the round of 16 four times in the last five years.
Freshman forward Stephanie Wirth one-timed a pass from Cerrone to the left of NU goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon to give BC a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
BC made it 2-0 in the 32d minute when Cerrone bolted down the sideline, broke free of a defender, and fired a low shot to the far post for the goal.
Defender Brianna Wilson-Byrne gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead when she carried the ball to just outside the box and fired a shot to the far post for her first goal of the season.
At the half, BC held an 11-2 edge in shots.
The Eagles got the final tally in the 72d minute when Cerrone sent a low corner kick toward the top of the box. Midfielder Kerri McNicholas settled the ball and ripped a shot to the right of the diving Gordon from just inside the box for her first goal of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Huskies, 18-4, and had six corner kicks to the Huskies' one.
BC freshman goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni earned her 10th shutout of the season.
NCAA Division 2 - Amanda Schweers had a goal and an assist and keeper Shannon Murphy recorded her eighth shutout of the season to lead St. Rose (18-3-2) to a 4-0 East Regional win over host Franklin Pierce (15-4-2) . . . In the other semifinal, Bridgeport held off host C.W. Post, 1-0.
NCAA Division 3 - Jackie Hirsch scored three goals in the first 25 minutes to power Amherst (13-2-3) to a 3-0 second-round victory over host Springfield (16-4-2) . . . Bret Eisenhart, Brianna Wolfson, and Sara Wild scored for No. 1 seed Williams (17-0-1) as the Ephs beat visiting Husson (16-5-1), 3-0 . . . The College of New Jersey scored three second-half goals in a 3-0 victory over Western Connecticut State (15-4-3) . . . Chelsey Feldman scored both goals as host Ithaca earned a 2-0 victory over Roger Williams (19-3-0) . . . After finishing regulation and overtime tied, 1-1, William Smith College won a penalty kick shootout, 4-3, to beat Endicott (16-3-3) at Beverly.
ECAC Division 3 - Mimi Theodore, Melissa Gorenkoff, and Alanna Torre found the net for Brandeis (13-7-2), which claimed the New England title by beating the University of New England, 3-1, in Waltham.
Men's soccer
Atlantic 10 final - Dayton (15-4-2) snapped the Minutemen's seven-game winning streak, 1-0, when Zach Weiss was credited with the winner after a UMass defender headed in an own goal at Pittsburgh. UMass (10-7-3) will need an at-large bid to make the NCAA tournament.
Colonial final - Forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe took a perfect cross from Lucas Pardew and beat Northeastern keeper Scott Partridge from 5 yards, enabling the George Mason (13-6-2) to claimed the title, 1-0, in Wilmington, N.C. The Huskies finished the season 7-5-9.
Patriot League final - Alex Weekes scored a pair goals as the Colgate (12-5-3) held off Holy Cross (9-5-5), 2-1, in Hamilton, N.Y.
NCAA Division 2 - Matheus Candido and Jhony Valencia scored within a span of eight minutes in the first half to power UMass-Lowell to a 2-0 East Regional victory over Southern New Hampshire. The River Hawks (13-3-4) handed the Penmen (15-3-4) their first home loss of the season . . . In the other semifinal, Lamine Traore had a goal and two assists in Dowling's 3-1 victory over Franklin Pierce (13-8-2) at Brookhaven, N.Y.
NCAA Division 3 - Two goals by Nolan Sandberg gave Stevens Institute of Technology (18-2-2) a 2-0 victory over Rhode Island College (12-6-5) in a second-round game in Wellesley . . . Robbie Redmond's goal in the 83d minute gave Middlebury (14-2-3) a 1-0 victory over visiting Norwich (18-3-1) . . . Jake Duker's goal in the 68th minute to help host Amherst (13-3-3) advance with a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence (13-7-1).
Field hockey
NCAA Division 2 - Jamie Vanartsdalen's hat trick spurred host Bloomsburg (23-1) past UMass-Lowell (20-5), 6-2, for its third consecutive national championship.
NCAA Division 3 - Brittany Holiday scored on a penalty stroke with 1:49 remaining to give host Tufts (18-1) a 2-1 victory over The College of New Jersey (16-3) and its first trip to the final four. The Jumbos will face Messiah Saturday in Collegeville, Pa . . . In another regional final, Madaleine McQuenney had a pair of goals to help host Bowdoin (17-2) take down Middlebury (14-4), 3-1.
