Sophomore's goal upends Holy Cross

Sophomore Colin Wilson scored the winner on the power play in the third period and added an assist as eighth-ranked Boston University skated to a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross last night at Agganis Arena, and snapped a two-game skid.

The Terriers (8-4-0) never trailed and held a 2-1 lead entering the third on goals by Brandon Yip and Zach Cohen.

Jordan Cyr and Everett Sheen scored for the Crusaders (3-8-1).

Vermont 3, UMass 2 - Peter Lenes took a feed from Drew MacKenzie 4:37 into overtime to spark the 13th-ranked Catamounts to a Hockey East victory at the Mullins center.

Chris Davis and Justin Braun gave the Minutemen (6-5-1, 4-4-1) a two-goal early in the second period but strikes by Dean Strong and Viktor Stalberg got Vermont (8-3-2, 5-3-1) back in the game.

UMass-Lowell 3, Merrimack 1 - Paul Worthington snapped a 1-1 tie 6:18 into the third period and Kory Falite added an insurance strike as the River Hawks earned a Hockey East victory at North Andover.

Nevin Hamilton had 24 saves for the River Hawks (7-5-0, 5-3-0), while Andrew Brathwaite stopped 27 for the Warriors (3-7-3, 1-6-2).

Yale 4, Brown 3 - Sean Backman's second goal of the game snapped a 2-2 tie and sent the Bulldogs (6-2-0, 3-1-0) to an ECAC victory over the Bears (0-5-2, 0-3-2) at Providence.

AIC 3, Bentley 1 - Dan Ramirez had 35 stops in net as the Yellow Jackets (4-9-0, 4-7-0 Atlantic) upended the Falcons (5-5-1, 4-3-1) in Watertown.

St. Michael's 5, Assumption 2 - Chris Healey's two goals provided the offense and Tyler Bilton was a stalwart in net with 50 saves as the host Knights (1-0-0) toppled the Greyhounds (1-5-0). UMass-Boston 9, Framingham St. 1 - Chris Wyman had a hat trick and Kris Kranzky added a pair of goals as the host Beacons (1-0-0) rolled over the Rams.

Worcester St. 7, WNEC 6 -John Cahalane had three goals, the final one coming with 28 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Lancers (3-4-0) past the Golden Bears in Worcester.

Southern Maine 7, Plymouth St. 0 - Dan Gordon had a pair of goals and an assist to power the visiting Panthers (1-3-0) past the Huskies (1-3-0).

Yale 4, BU 1
- Aleca Hughes and Danielle Kozlowski each had a power-play goal as the Bulldogs (3-5-0) topped the Terriers (8-3-3) at New Haven.

Vermont 2, Maine 2 - Peggy Wakeman knotted things with a power-play strike at 7:13 of the third period to lift visiting Catamounts into a tie.

- Sverre Wegge Gundhus scored in the 83d minute to power St. John's (17-2-3) past Boston University (12-6-3) in the second round of the NCAA tournament in New York . . . Harvard (12-6-0) fell to host South Florida, 2-1 . . . Connecticut (11-4-6) surprised host Virginia (11-9-1) with a 2-0 victory . . . Boston College's second-round match at Dartmouth was postponed because of inclement weather and will be played today at 1 p.m.
