Vermont has final say in tie against BC

Three times Boston College took a one-goal lead. Three times Vermont tied it - although the final tally didn't leave much room for error.

Brian Roloff scored a power-play goal with one second left and the 12th-ranked Catamounts escaped with a 3-3 tie against the No. 9 Eagles at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington last night.

Vermont (11-4-3, 6-3-2 Hockey East) outshot BC, 26-14, but was fortunate to escape with a point as John Muse made 23 stops for the Eagles (9-5-3, 5-4-3).

Kyle Kucharski (two goals) got BC started when he struck at 16:56 of the first period.

Viktor Stalberg answered for the Catamounts, beating Muse at 12:24 of the second.

Cam Atkinson put BC back up at 15:00 when he converted on the power play.

Again UVM answered when Peter Lenes tallied midway through the third period. Kucharski put BC back up at 13:24, and Muse made the one-goal lead stand up - until the final second.

Vermont outshot BC, 3-2, in overtime.

UMass 2, UNH 2 - Cory Quirk scored a power-play goal with four seconds left and the Minutemen salvaged a tie with the No. 13 Wildcats in Amherst.

Bobby Butler got New Hampshire on the board first, beating Dan Meyers (31 saves) at 8:44 of the second period.

It took the Minutemen (9-8-2, 4-4-2 HE) just 2:04 to tie it, with T.J. Syner converting Will Ortiz's feed for his fourth of the season.

Mike Sislo put UNH (9-6-4, 6-4-3) back on top with 1:03 left in the period when he picked up a shorthanded tally.

Brian Foster made 29 saves for UNH.

Yale 2, Dartmouth 1 - Brian O'Neill and Broc Little scored for the Bulldogs (10-4-0, 5-2-0 ECAC), who edged the host Big Green (9-6-0, 6-4-0) despite Jody O'Neill's 51 saves.

Quinnipiac 2, RPI 2 - Mike Atkinson and Bryan Leitch scored third-period goals and the host Bobcats (11-6-2, 6-3-2 ECAC) knocked off the Engineers (3-15-2, 2-5-1).

Quinnipiac took a five-game win streak and wins in nine of its past 11 games into the contest, and improved to 5-0-3 in its last eight games against Rensselaer.

Holy Cross 5, AIC 1 - Rob Forshner scored twice and the Crusaders (7-11-2, 6-8-1 Atlantic) rolled past the Yellowjackets (4-15-1, 4-10-0) in Worcester.

Bentley 8, Canisius 3 - Dustin Cloutier had three goals and an assist and the visiting Falcons (7-10-1, 6-6-1 Atlantic) blasted the Golden Griffins (7-7-4, 5-5-2).

RIT 5, UConn 3 - Brennan Sarazin scored the winner with 1:15 to go as the host Tigers (11-9-1, 10-4-1 Atlantic) rallied for four third-period goals to top the Huskies (4-15-1, 3-8-1).

Women
St. Lawrence 4, BC 2 - Marianna Locke scored twice, including the go-ahead score at 6:02 of the third period, and the fifth-ranked Saints (12-4-3) rallied to knock off the No. 7 Eagles (12-5-3) in Canton, N.Y.

Meghan Fardelmann and Allie Thunstrom scored for BC.

Dartmouth 5, Yale 2 - Reagan Fischer scored twice and Kelly Foley had a goal and two assists as the No. 8 Big Green (10-5-2, 8-3-2 Hockey East) rolled past the host Bulldogs (7-8-0, 3-5-0).
