1. Air Force
Last season: 28-11-2
Atlantic: 20-6-2
Key losses: Forwards Josh Frider, Brent Olson, and Mike Phillipich and defensemen Greg Flynn and Michael Mayra.
Key additions: Forwards Kyle DeLaurell, Danny Durham, and Stephen Carew, defensemen Eric Artman and Mike Walsh, and goaltender David Bosner.
Outlook: The three-time defending champions were picked again by coaches to finish first. The Falcons remain the gold standard.
2. American International
Last season: 5-28-2
Atlantic: 5-22-1
Key losses: Defensemen Matt Woodard and Frankie DeAngelis, and forward Chad Richardson.
Key additions: Forwards Richard Leitner and Adam Pleskach, and defensemen Chris Markiewicz and Jeff Ceccacci.
Outlook: Faced with a tough schedule and a lack of scoring (only 1.66 goals scored per game versus 4.03 for opponents). Can goalie Dan Ramirez improve his numbers or will freshman Ben Meisner get a shot?
3. Army
Last season: 11-19-6
Atlantic: 10-12-6
Key losses: Forwards Will Ryan and Matt Hickey (who also plays defense). Defenseman Zach McKelvie and goaltender Josh Kassel.
Key additions: Defenseman John Clark and forwards Andy Starczewski and Mike Santee.
Outlook: The squad has a very young defense but returns its top line of Cody Omilusik, Eric Sefchik, and Owen Meyer, and goaltender Jay Clark.
4. Bentley
Last season: 19-17-2
Atlantic: 15-11-2
Key losses: Forwards Dain Prewitt, Anthony Canzoneri, and Jeff Gumaer.
Key additions: Forwards Daniel Koudys, Jordy Trottier, and Joey Campanelli.
Outlook: It will be very difficult to match its school-record Division 1 win total, particularly with the loss of its entire first line. The positive, though, is that there are three very good players back in Marc Menzione, Dustin Cloutier and Erik Peterson.
5. Canisius
Last season: 15-16-6
Atlantic: 12-12-4
Key losses: none.
Key additions: Defenseman Chris Forsman, and forwards Steven Shafer, Preston Shupe, and Torrey Lindsay.
Outlook: Fortunately for the Golden Griffins, they have their top seven scorers returning. Chief among them is senior forward Jason Weeks, who had 39 points last season.
6. Connecticut
Last season: 9-26-2
Atlantic: 8-18-2
Key losses: Defensemen Sean Erickson and Nick Schneider, and goaltender Beau Erickson.
Key additions: Forwards Sean Ambrosie, Evan Carriere, and Jim Gallagher, defensemen Alex Gerke and Tom Janosz, and goaltenders Jeff Larson and Matt Grogan.
Outlook: UConn will miss Erickson, who left after his junior year. Larson and junior Brad McInnis will battle it out for the starting job.
7. Holy Cross
Last season: 13-20-5
Atlantic: 10-15-3
Key losses: Defenseman Marty Dams.
Key additions: Forward Rob Linsmayer and defenseman Brendan Baker.
Outlook: The Crusaders have a host of players returning. Where it will get interesting is in goal, because it’s a three-horse race among freshman Thomas Tysowsky, junior Adam Roy, and senior Ian Dams.
8. Mercyhurst
Last season: 22-15-3
Atlantic: 17-8-3
Key losses: Forward Matt Pierce, and defensemen Bobby Phillips and Kirk Medernach.
Key additions: Forwards Paul Chiasson and Grant Blakey, and defenseman Charlie Carkin.
Outlook: Air Force gets most of the accolades, and justifiably so, but the Lakers will be one of the best teams in the league. Top returners are forwards Steve Cameron and Scott Pitt, and goaltender Ryan Zapolski.
9. Rochester Tech
Last season: 23-13-2
Atlantic: 20-6-2
Key losses: Forwards Brennan Sarazin, Matt Crowell, and Anton Kharin, defensemen Bobby Raymond and Justin Hofstetter, and goaltender Louis Menard.
Key additions: Forwards Bryan Potts, Adam Hartley, and Jeff Smith, defensemen Chris Tanev and Chris Saracino, and goaltender Shane Madolora.
Outlook: The Tigers had no trouble scoring (second nationally at 3.89 goals per game) and return five of the top eight point-getters. They’re looking to reach the NCAAs for the first time as a Division 1 program.
10. Sacred Heart
Last season: 11-23-4
Atlantic: 9-16-3
Key losses: Coach Shaun Hannah.
Key additions: Forward Eric Delong.
Outlook: Until it hires a head coach, it’s difficult to gauge in what direction the program is headed.
