A disastrous start for New Hampshire turned into a dramatic finish at Whittemore Center last night as the Wildcats clawed their way back from a 3-0 first-period deficit to tie 16th-ranked BC, 4-4, in Durham, N.H.
Carl Sneep’s second score of the game gave the Eagles (2-2-1, 1-2-1 Hockey East) a three-goal bulge - all on power plays - just 14:38 into the game. After Peter LeBlanc got UNH on the board early in the second, Ben Smith restored BC’s three-goal cushion, again with the man-advantage, with 6:29 left in the period.
The Wildcats (2-4-2, 2-0-1) finally started putting heavy pressure on BC goalie John Muse (27 saves) in the third stanza and the rewards came slowly, first on Mike Sislo’s goal at 4:13. Less than four minutes later, Paul Thompson pulled UNH within one off an assist from Bobby Butler, and Butler drilled home the equalizer with 53 seconds remaining in regulation.
UNH’s Brian Foster finished with 32 saves.
