Nick Schaus assisted on four UMass-Lowell goals, including Vallorani’s two third-period strikes as the River Hawks (9-5-1, 5-4-1 Hockey East) broke a three-game losing streak and handed UMass (9-5-0, 4-5-0) its third straight defeat.
Will Ortiz (19:54 of the first) and Casey Wellman (5:15 of the second) gave UMass a 2-0 lead, but that’s when UMass-Lowell went to work.
Schaus fed Jeremy Dehner to get UMass-Lowell on the board during a 4-on-3 at 6:45. Vallorani and Paul Worthington added second-period scores and the River Hawks took a 3-2 lead into the third.
Michael Marcou tied it at 6:45 of the third with a 4-on-4 tally, but Vallorani was just getting started, scoring the winner at 13:16 and sealing the win and his hat trick with 3:58 left.
Brown 2, Quinnipiac 1 - Jeff Buvinow and Sean Connauton broke a scoreless tie by scoring 1:23 apart early in the third period and the host Bears stunned the fourth-ranked Bobcats (12-3-0, 7-2-0 ECAC).
Brandon Wong cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 4-on-4 goal at 6:32 but Mike Clemente (22 saves) shut the door the rest of the way as Brown handed Quinnipiac its second straight loss after an eight-game winning streak.
Northeastern 2, Merrimack 1 - David Strathman scored at 6:28 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and the Huskies (6-7-1, 4-6-1 Hockey East) held on to beat the visiting Warriors (7-7-0, 4-5-0).
Garrett Vermeersch scored in the second period for NU, which had only 17 shots against Joe Cannata but made them count in earning a split of the weekend series.
Karl Stollery scored for Merrimack with 11 seconds left in the second period but otherwise Bryan Mountain (24 saves) was solid in his second straight start in place of Chris Rawlings, who sat out with a sinus infection.
Yale 4, Princeton 1 - Freshman Nick Maricic stopped 33 shots to backstop an ECAC victory for the 10th-ranked Bulldogs (7-3-2, 4-1-2) over the visiting Tigers (3-7-1, 2-6-1).
Maine 3, Providence 1 - Spencer Abbott broke a 1-1 tie with a goal at 4:39 of the second period and Scott Darling made 24 saves as the Black Bears (8-7-1, 6-4-1 Hockey East) completed a weekend sweep of the Friars (7-7-1, 2-4-1) in Orono.
Providence 4, UNH 1 - The Friars (5-7-6, 4-3-3-2 Hockey East) upset the third-ranked Wildcats (10-2-4, 5-1-1-0) in Durham, N.H., as Arianna Rigano, Alyse Ruff, and Jessica Vella had 2 points apiece.
UConn 2, BU 1 - Amy Hollstein scored the only goal of the shootout as the visiting Huskies (8-5-4, 2-4-3-1 Hockey East) surprised the No. 10 Terriers (7-6-7, 4-4-2-2).![]()
