Since starting the season with three straight victories, Boston College has been stuck in an identity crisis. Last night’s 5-3 defeat at Vermont made it seven straight games the Eagles have alternated wins and losses.

The Catamounts (1-4-3, 1-3-2 Hockey East) finally got their first win by jumping ahead early and pounding away at BC goalie Parker Milner for three third-period goals. Sebastian Stalberg assisted on Chris McCarthy’s goal just 1:27 in and then scored to make it a 2-1 Vermont lead at 15:32 of the first period.

The advantage grew to 4-1 in the third period before the seventh-ranked Eagles (6-4-0, 4-3-0) staged a rally. Jimmy Hayes scored a pair of goals less than four minutes apart to get BC within one, but Tobias Nilsson-Roos tacked on an empty-netter for Vermont with 34 seconds left.

UNH 3, UMass 3 — Blake Kessel’s goal in the final minute of regulation gave the ninth-ranked Wildcats (5-1-3, 3-0-2 Hockey East) a surprising tie with the visiting Minutemen (0-6-3, 0-3-3). Paul Dainton had 43 saves for UMass.

Maine 4, Northeastern 2 — The No. 5 Black Bears (6-1-3, 4-0-1 Hockey East) rallied at home with a three-goal third period. Joey Diamond’s goal at 4:19 got Maine even with the Huskies (1-7-2, 1-4-1), and then Ryan Hegarty and Klas Leidermark each scored their first of the year.

Clarkson 3, Harvard 1 — Allan McPherson had a goal and an assist in the second period as the Knights (5-4-2, 1-2-0 ECAC) tripped up the Crimson (2-2-0, 2-2-0) in Potsdam, N.Y.

Dartmouth 6, St. Lawrence 1 — Mike Keenan scored twice and added an assist in a road romp for the Big Green (3-2-1, 2-1-1 ECAC).

Quinnipiac 3, Colgate 1 — Scott Zurevinski popped in a pair of goals to power the Bobcats (2-5-1, 0-3-1 ECAC) in Hamilton, N.Y.

Yale 5, Colorado College 1 — The No. 3 Bulldogs (5-0-0) won on the road as Charles Brockett and Andrew Miller each had a goal and an assist.

Holy Cross 3, Canisius 3 — Kyle Atkins’s goal with 4:34 left in regulation allowed the Crusaders (4-4-1, 3-1-1 Atlantic) to tie in Buffalo.

Niagara 5, Bentley 3 — Erik Peterson (two points) and the Falcons (2-5-1, 1-2-0 Atlantic) blew a 3-0 lead to the host Purple Eagles (5-3-2, 4-1-0).

Robert Morris 5, Sacred Heart 1 — R.J. Boyd had the lone goal for the Pioneers (1-6-2, 1-3-2 Atlantic), who couldn’t keep up in Pittsburgh.

RIT 5, UConn 3 — Andrew Olson had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (2-3-3, 2-2-1 Atlantic) in a losing effort.

Women BU 2, Vermont 2 — The fifth-ranked Terriers (8-1-3, 2-0-3 Hockey East) extended their program-record unbeaten streak to 11 games as Kerrin Sperry made 29 saves at Walter Brown Arena.

BC 1, St. Lawrence 1 — Kiera Kingston stopped 28 shots to help the No. 6 Eagles (7-1-4) earn a tie with the Saints (4-5-2) in a nonconference matchup in Canton, N.Y.

Harvard 2, Princeton 2 — The No. 10 Crimson (2-2-2, 2-2-2 ECAC) got two goals from Katharine Chute, but still tied the host Tigers (3-5-1, 3-3-1).
