Blackwell’s goal helps Harvard secure a tie
Colin Blackwell scored a spinning goal at 1:34 of the third period to help Harvard earn a 2-2 tie with Rensselaer last night in Troy, N.Y.
Despite a 27-13 edge in shots on goal, the Crimson (4-4-6, 3-3-4 ECAC) needed Blackwell’s artsy strike and an Eric Kroshus goal to tie an Engineer squad that had lost six straight.
Scott Diebold helped Rensselaer (3-16-1, 1-7-1) end the skid with 25 saves, and Steve Michalek made 11 stops for Harvard.
Blackwell and Kroshus assisted on each other’s goals, and Dan Ford picked up helpers on both.
The teams began the final period with four skaters a side, and the Engineers holding a 2-1 lead. Blackwell used the extra space to even the score on his backhand.
Zach Schroeder and C.J. Lee scored in the first six minutes of the first period for Rensselaer, before Kroshus’s power-play strike at 7:27 narrowed the gap.
