Sophomore guard Lisa Etienne scored 13 points and host Hartford handed No. 23 Brigham Young its third loss in five games, 60-43, yesterday.
Etienne scored 5 points as Hartford (5-3) opened the second half with a 10-0 run. Guard Ikea Witt, who finished with 12 points, capped the run with a layup that gave Hartford a 39-25 lead.
The Hawks, who had a 20-game home winning streak snapped Wednesday with a 59-53 loss to Seton Hall, were playing a ranked team at Chase Arena for the first time.
Center Dani Kubik Wright led BYU (4-3) with 16 points. She was perfect from the field, hitting all seven of her shots, but didn't attempt a field goal in the second half until scoring on a 3-point play with 4:31 left.
Shawnee Slade, who entered the game leading the Cougars in scoring at 11.4 points per game, went scoreless on 0-for-7 shooting.
Maryland 105, UC Santa Barbara 44 -- At College Park, Md., Marissa Coleman had 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists -- the first triple-double in school history -- to lead the top-ranked Terrapins (9-0) to the rout.
Coleman was one of six players in double figures for the Terps, who had every player score. Laura Harper was 7 for 7 from the field and scored 19 points, and Crystal Langhorne had 18.
Jenna Green led the Gauchos (1-5) with 15 points.
Oklahoma 72, Tulsa 49 -- At Tulsa, Okla., Courtney Paris scored 24 points and had 13 rebounds for her 34th straight double-double despite sitting out more than 10 minutes with foul trouble in the third-ranked Sooners' win.
Tulsa (3-4) cut a 22-point deficit to single digits after Paris had to leave the game after getting her fourth foul with 16:09 to play.
Paris returned at the 5:34 mark and immediately put the Sooners (6-0) back in control. She converted a layup, then followed Chelsi Welch's 3-pointer with a layup off an offensive rebound.
Purdue 69, Gonzaga 44 -- At West Lafayette, Ind., Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton had 21 points and five blocked shots and the No. 9 Boilermakers (7-1) pulled away with an early 25-3 run.
Gonzaga (6-4) was led by Stephanie Hawk with 13 points.
LSU 80, Detroit 44 -- At Baton Rouge, La., Sylvia Fowles scored 26 points and the No. 11 Lady Tigers rolled to an easy victory.
LSU (9-1) held Detroit to 29 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers.
The Lady Titans (1-4) finished with just 16 field goals.
Baylor 81, SE Missouri St. 47 -- At Waco, Texas, Bernice Mosby scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds, leading the No. 13 Bears (8-1) past the Redhawks (2-3).
Angela Tisdale added 17 points for Baylor, which has won five in a row.
Arizona St. 85, N. Arizona 72 -- At Tempe, Ariz., Jill Noe had 17 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds as the No. 14 Sun Devils (7-1) topped the Lumberjacks (5-4) to win their sixth straight championship in the Arizona State University Classic.
Arizona State played without starters Aubree Johnson, Emily Westerberg, and Reagan Pariseau. They were in Idaho for the funeral of Johnson's 15-year-old brother Jordan, who died in his sleep Nov. 25 while in the US Virgin Islands to see his sister play in a tournament.
California 96, Harvard 54 -- At Berkeley, Calif., Ashley Walker had 17 points and seven rebounds to lift the No. 16 Bears over the Crimson in the opener of the Contra Costa Times Classic.
Playing on its home court, Cal (5-1) scored the first 8 points and never trailed.
Emily Tay paced Harvard (0-6) with 12 points.
George Washington 68, Stony Brook 55 -- Kenan Cole and Sarah-Jo Lawrence each scored 13 points and Whitney Allen grabbed 14 rebounds as the No. 21 Colonials (7-1) held off the host Seawolves (2-3).![]()
